Scientific Health Development (SHD) is a boutique investment firm with $85-100 million under management or advisory and a portfolio of approximately 15 active companies. SHD provides venture capital to the life sciences industry, investing in early stage companies with a strong focus on medical devices. Operating as a bridge between angel investors and larger growth investors, SHD connects people, capital, and ideas to accelerate innovation and provide value to its portfolio companies, limited partners and medical patients worldwide. SHD was founded in 2006, will be closing on SHD IV in the near term, and is hiring an Associate to join our team.

An exciting and varied position, the Associate will work out of the firm’s Dallas office working directly with the Chief Executive Officer and General Partners. Candidate is required to be a motivated and enthusiastic self-starter who works with initiative and light supervision. Ideal candidate should be confident and positive, high-energy, cultured, and capable of easily interacting with senior management both internally and at portfolio companies, including flexibility and willingness to get involved in many different aspects of the business.

Duties:

  • Perform market research to help identify new investment trends and opportunities
  • Deal screening: call and/or meet with prospects, evaluate opportunities
  • Documentation: summarize call notes, monitor deal logs
  • Network with peers at other investment firms and family offices
  • Perform Due Diligence:
    • Gather information from target companies and industry experts
    • Research and talk to existing references, customers, and competitors of target companies
    • Research and speak with technical/business consultants and outside experts to evaluate the target company’s technology including IP
    • Conduct background checks on the current management of the target company
    • Perform valuation analysis via modeling
    • Preparing internal investment memos
  • Investor Relations: reporting and outreach as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • MBA or CFA a plus (required if degree is outside of finance)
  • 3-7 years of experience (VC/PE, investment banking, consulting)
  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred
  • Outstanding analytical skills, detail-oriented, proactive and self-motivated
  • Confidence in and strong working knowledge of Excel including advanced functions
  • Experience with cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques
  • Ability to produce well designed professional PowerPoint presentations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
