COMPANY OVERVIEW:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role will liaise across the WGIM business including Business Unit CEOs, investment managers, finance professionals, and local portfolio managers as well as across Nuveen including risk management, Nuveen Finance and Client Relations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • The Portfolio Manager position will have both direct and indirect responsibility for individual Funds managed by WGIM; these responsibilities include:
    • Developing and maintaining a working go-forward Fund model for each Fund
    • Updating the Fund model yearly with input from the Business units for go-forward returns
    • Conduct analysis on leverage, optimal portfolio allocations, capex requests, acquisitions, dispositions and report to the GIC or GIC-OC (annually for the go-forward returns) and provide analysis and recommendations on an adhoc basis as capex, acquisitions, dispositions arise
    • Develop a deep understanding of the Fund structure, investments, clients, ESG.
    • Maintain spreadsheets of Fund exposures, committed capital, committed capex, follow-on investments
    • Track requirements for investor capital calls in junction with Nuveen Finance and Westchester Finance on a quarterly and annual basis
    • Prepare quarterly Fund management reports and Board meeting materials
    • Respond to ad-hoc client queries about Fund performance, deployment etc
    • Attend investor meetings to update on performance, deployment, outlook
    • Assist in prospective client meetings to support our product strategy efforts.
    • With input from the business units prepare materials for annual budget approvals, annual capex approvals and mid-year budget v actual analysis.
  • The role will also be involved in driving new strategic initiatives at WGIM whether that be analysing/supporting the development of new Funds, Strategies or SMAs.
  • Be a role model and mentor for junior or new additions to the Portfolio Management Team.
  • Market analysis: support WGIM and business units in developing research on potential new investment opportunities (commodity or country)
  • Support WGIMs research series by producing at least one research piece per annum.
  • Ensuring that RAOOC documents are updated and submitted to Nuveen Risk.
  • Assist in strategic or adhoc analysis as it relates to Funds or strategies at WGIM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in investment management (farmland and agriculture experience strongly preferred)
  • A strong background and understanding of agriculture, accounting, business management, investment analysis and methodology for assessing investment performance.
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a relevant area of study; Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Business Accounting and Finance or holding CFA and valuation qualifications.
  • Experience with various regional or geographic crop types, production systems and investment underwriting experience.
Preferred:
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and management skills are a necessity for this position.
  • The person holding this position will need to be personable and capable of working with broad cross section of people including Investors, portfolio managers, farmers and audit groups
  • High degree of self-motivation, dedication, creativity, and perseverance, including flexibility with time and willingness to accept a demanding (and personally satisfying) position.
  • Practical experience or further education in agriculture and agribusiness would be beneficial.
  • On-going training if required will be offered and provided.
