BMO is looking for a High Yield / Distressed Debt Corporate Analyst. The analyst will be a generalist, looking for opportunities across sectors and issuer capital structures; the analyst will work closely with sector specialists on the research team. This role will report to the Head of Research and collaborate with the rest of the investment team, including portfolio managers and trading staff.
  • Monitor and analyze credit risk and recovery value of high yield and distressed debt sectors through sector analysis, bottom-up fundamental research and bond covenant analysis.
  • Provide timely research opinions and investment recommendations (verbal and written) to Portfolio Managers to enhance portfolio returns while managing risk.
  • Develop relationships with sell-side analysts, company management, and other industry experts to support research.
  • Contribute to overall research team efforts through whitepapers, peer support, etc.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong academic background including bachelor's degree in a relevant field; MBA a plus.
  • CFA charterholder (or advancement toward CFA designation) a plus.
  • 3 to 5 years of credit research in fixed income analysis, with 3+ years experience in high yield.
  • Comfortable with quantitative tools and applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to construct and defend a recommendation.
  • Ability to be a team player, while at the same time exhibiting ownership of assigned coverage universe.
