Position Overview

APAC MASS is seeking to expand its Hong Kong team by hiring an Associate to support the development of our growing Institutional Strategies & Solutions business in the AxJ region, with a focus on delivering multi-asset investment solutions for institutional clients, including pensions (public and private), financial institutions, foundations & endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and other money owners. The candidate will work with Portfolio Managers and Client CIOs in the design and implementation of investment strategies, including total return, absolute return and outcome-oriented strategies. In particular, he/she will assist in: (i) exploring and understanding client's investment goals and aspirations, (ii) crafting potential solutions using BlackRock's analytical toolset and market views and (iii) reporting/ communicating the results back to clients. Once the target strategy is agreed the individual will help facilitate the implementation of the investment strategy as well as providing ongoing technical client support. During all parts of the process, this candidate joining our MASS team will work closely with internal partners and will play an active role in new business solicitations, including responsibility for written RFP responses and commercial proposals and close collaboration with our Legal team on client contracting.

Interested new joiners should have an excellent understanding of multi-asset investing, risk management concepts, and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Additionally, they should have working understanding of the Asia institutional market and some experience of explaining detailed concepts to third parties, including clients that may not have deep financial experience or familiarity.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions team, the new team member will be responsible for assisting and driving the following key aspects of our institutional solutions efforts:
  • Engage with the investment offices of existing and prospective clients to understand the nature of the client's investment problem and their outcome objectives
  • Communicate credible, innovative solutions that meet current and prospective client requirements
  • Advise on topics including risk management, risk budgeting, tactical and strategic asset allocation, and portfolio construction
  • Lead all aspects of day-to-day client engagement (i.e. training and educating, delivering investment agreement and market updates, resolving client requests)
  • Input feedback into new product design, as well as the improvement of existing product offerings and servicing
  • Deliver client presentations based on new insights in portfolio construction and risk management
  • Compose articles and white papers on relevant topics of interest
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the full suite of solutions offered by MASS and the products managed by other investment areas within BlackRock
  • Maintain and develop insights about broader themes, trends, and competitive landscape within the Asia institutional client universe
  • Develop and grow strong and positive partnership with the Institutional Client Business Group and the Global Consultant Relations teams who are primarily responsible for leading and developing BlackRock's client and consulting relationships


Required Skills & Experience
  • Degree or higher-level qualification and demonstrated record of academic achievement;
  • 2+ years of asset management experience, preferably across multiple asset classes and investment subject areas
  • Demonstrated experience in an asset management, investment banking or investment consulting environment
  • Familiarity with a wide array of institutional investment strategies (e.g., risk parity, Alternatives)
  • Excellent communication skills in writing and speech; capable of connecting with multiple audiences and adapting style of communication in real time
  • Ability to present and articulate sophisticated concepts simply
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • High self-motivation, ownership and initiative
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent teammate
  • Not afraid to immerse oneself deeply into a financial model or analysis

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Some technology/IT/Modeling proficiency
  • Experience preparing responses to RFIs and RFPs

  • Achievement of CFA, FRM, CAIA or progress towards achieving
  • Language skills for the local market
