What we're building

We now need an Senior Fund Manager to support the transformation and the future growth of the business within the Asset Management function, so it can support Canada Life's Individual and Wealth businesses as well as other Great West group companies through the management of their general account portfolios, and providing collective fund solutions to third party customers in both Europe and North America.

Job summary

Our Investments division, based in the heart of London, comprises a team of highly qualified specialists with approximately £2.5 billion of assets under management in equities alone.

The role of Senior Fund Manager will manage specified portfolios as part of a team of specialists in line with stated goals and targets and will report directly into the Head of Equities.

This role will be responsible for Asia equity portfolio management, providing investment management of specific portfolios.

What you'll do
  • Manage specified portfolios in accordance within agreed limits and in accordance with statutory compliance requirements and investment policy.
  • Research and monitor individual stock markets, companies and sectors in order to undertake suitable investments and to maintain the existing portfolios.
  • Contribute to departmental discussions on market events, fund performance and asset allocation so that superior relative returns are maintained.
  • Report on fund activity to enable the audience to gain a good understanding of the philosophy, strategy and tactics underlying the management of particular portfolios.
  • Attend external company meetings and use them to develop investment recommendations
  • Ensure that input to accounting systems and valuations are correct to facilitate accurate reporting and analysis.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with various internal and external contacts to enhance service provided and received.
  • Doing ad hoc additional work in order to comply with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Mentor and support less senior members of the team

Who you are
  • Proven experience working in equity markets
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to influence investment decisions and explain in a clear manner investment strategies.
  • Ability to work in a team and discuss views with confidence and reason.
  • Good wide-ranging relationships with external brokers and other professional advisers.
  • Sufficient experience to confer immediate recognition by the relevant regulatory authority
  • Asia equity market knowledge
  • Chinese language skills preferred

Qualifications
  • Relevant professional qualifications (CFA desirable).
  • Broad education in economics, finance and basic accounting techniques.
  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree or equivalent in a numerate subject
