We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Investments Chief Operating Officer.

Principal responsibilities

  • Develops investment operations processes and infrastructure for HSBC's insurance manufacturing entities globally
  • Responsible for working in partnership with the Head of Balance Sheet Optimisation, Global Insurance (Global BSO) and Chief Investment Officer, Global Insurance (GI CIO) to set strategy and to engage with stakeholders globally
  • Translate the business requirements and aspirations into effective global execution strategy and implementation plans
  • Ensure a robust governance and processes are in place across Entity Investment Operations, who interact with key parties within HSBC such as HSBC Global Banking & Markets (GBM), HSBC Securities Services (HSS), HSBC Global Asset Management (AMG), Hang Seng Bank and Hang Seng Investment Management, as well as external banks, asset management companies, consultants and vendors
  • Responsible for maintaining alignment and minimum standards of Investment Operations processes across global insurance entities, taking into consideration local regulatory and business requirements
  • Partner with Entity COOs, determine the organisational framework, objectives and execution plans for Investment Operations to support the business growth and requirements of Investment teams globally
  • Maintains the operational capability to oversee and manage risks in accordance with the Group policies, local regulations and market practices
  • Be a member of the Group Insurance COO Management Committeem, other Global Insurance COO forums, Global Insurance Investment Committee (GIIC) and a key member of the global Investment Operations community


Qualifications
Requirements
  • Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Finance, Risk, IT, Operations or a related field
  • Formal operations, finance or investment management (e.g. CFA, CIPM) qualifications are desirable
  • Prior working experience in investment operations of insurers, sovereign wealth funds (SWF), buy-side institutions such as global asset management companies, is preferred
  • Detailed expertise and knowledge in relation to investment operations and processes of buy-side financial institutions such as insurance companies, asset management companies and sovereign wealth funds
  • In-depth knowledge of investment systems - functionally, operationally and financially
  • Understanding of key features and risk return profiles of global asset classes and instruments, including plain vanilla instruments such as cash equity and fixed income, as well as derivatives
  • In-depth understanding of the requirements of investment reporting and their accounting implications
  • Demonstrated business knowledge, ideally experience of working within a complex global business unit
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology development and infrastructure and how this can be used to meet business needs
  • Practical experience of major business transformation with global project management experience
  • Understanding the nature and dynamics of the buy-side investment sector and of complex financial markets where change is rapid and frequently unprecedented
  • Financial and accounting acumen
  • Experience of managing within a complex matrix environment
  • Experience of working across cultures
  • Experience of coordinating a globally dispersed team
  • Ability to articulate complex and sensitive information and situations in meaningful and easily understood terms
  • Understanding of the HSBC Group and its strategy, structures and processes
  • Knowledge of the external environment - regulatory, political, competitor and market
