The Assistant Portfolio Manager reports to the Sr. Manager, Corporate Investments & Funding within SVB's Finance Organization. The focus of this role is to assist with all facets of managing the Company's corporate investment portfolio while monitoring and reporting cash availability and funding requirements. The Assistant Portfolio Manager will analyze the validity of investment strategies within the context of the Company's Investment Policy and perform a variety of administrative and reporting duties directly related to the investing and funding process (pre-purchase analysis, execution, settlement, monitoring, etc.). Transaction execution will be limited for those new to the role, but responsibilities will increase as the Assistant Portfolio Manager demonstrates measured achievement in the primary duties related to the position (noted below).

Primary Duties:

This role is responsible for analytical reporting, including completing Regulatory filings, SEC filings, and informative management committee reports. This role will assist in developing tactical and strategic investment plans and their execution. Evaluation of market and economic conditions, security specific research and analysis, and documentation thereof. This role will collaborate with the Cash Managers to settle fixed income and funding trades. Will collaborate with the Asset/Liability and Capital Planning functions to ensure that investment and funding strategies are consistent with the overall organizational objectives. This role will analyze process outputs and exercise independent judgement to initiate investment transactions on the Company's behalf (limited to start but with growing responsibilities over time). Will act as the principal point of contact for the portfolio with Compliance, Sox, and Audit.

While many of the deliverables are dictated by desktop procedures, this role will liaise between the Bank and its investment and funding counterparties and will be relied upon to adapt to and act accordingly to non-routine situations. In addition, this role is expected to provide the necessary foundation and career path leading to a Portfolio Manager role. As such, the expectation is that measured progress is made in demonstrating progressively increasing competence in current and newly assigned tasks over time.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant working experience required
  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics- MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Familiarity with fixed income securities and their settlement processes, and/or Treasury funding operations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Products, Bloomberg, and Bond Analytical software.
  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft General Ledger.
  • The position requires a demonstrated ability to translate and communicate complex analytical subjects into relevant material impacts on the Company's risk profile and financial performance.
