Principal is looking to hire a Sr. Private Credit Analyst to support its private credit investment strategy.

The primary role will be to perform in depth, bottom-up fundamental research on an assigned coverage universe and to make investment recommendations to the portfolio management team in a clear and convincing manner.  The analyst will be responsible for the initial development of company valuation models and underwriting memorandums and will have the opportunity to contribute to other facets of the team’s investment process as needed.

Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of adding value to an investment process through fundamental research. Given the nature of the role, successful candidates will also exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit and have a history of working collaboratively within an investment team environment.

As a Sr. Private Credit Analyst on the Fixed Income team, you would be responsible for evaluating private placement transactions, both investment and non-investment grade and including traditional private placements, infrastructure, leveraged loans and special assets, structuring commitments, closing transactions, managing and monitoring existing investments.

 

Incumbent will also develop and maintain relationships with sources of deal flow. In addition, incumbent will assist with the development of lesser experienced team members. Identify quality businesses with above average fundamentals;

 

  • A long-term (typically 3-5 years) investment horizon;

In addition, the Analyst will be responsible for:

 

  • Making long-term investment recommendations for multiple portfolios Monitoring existing investments within their assigned sector coverage

Working with Head of Private Credit by making buy or pass recommendations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field ((i.e. finance, accounting, economics, statistics, engineering, data science, business analytics). Minimum 5 years’ experience fixed income strategies in a trading, research, portfolio management or strategy capacity. Experience with infrastructure. Private Placement experience needed. MBA or CFA preferred. Proficiency with Excel and Bloomberg required. Candidates with experience investing in other relevant sectors and regions will also be considered, though a strong interest in infrastructure preferred.

Additional qualifications needed:

 

  • Possess a clear passion for investing. Exceptional financial statement analysis and accounting knowledge as well as demonstrated understanding of economics and investment theories.  Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and with others. Strong understanding of financial accounting and economic theory, applicable laws and regulations (including international), tax and accounting trends and implications, business operating trends and capital market conditions. Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively research, compile and analyze information, apply reasoning and exhibit sound decision making related to credit, risk and valuation. Strong abilities in the areas of communication (verbal and written), time management, analytics, financial modeling, and influencing required. Must be collaborative, able to build and maintain strong relationships, manage expectations, attend to details, multi-task and prioritize effectively. Keen sense of curiosity and open-minded thought process desired. Travel as needed and required, but minimal.
