OVERVIEW

The Public Markets Group manages a portfolio of fixed income, equity and absolute return investments representing approximately $105 billion utilizing both index and active management strategies. The Group invests in Canada, the U.S. and Internationally in both the developed and emerging markets. Assets are managed using both internal management and external managers. The Group uses a diverse mix of financial instruments including bonds, equities and derivatives. In addition, the Group is a leader in Responsible Investing actively integrating environmental, social and governance factors into our investment analysis and decision-making.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Based in our offices in Victoria, British Columbia, the Sr. Associate Portfolio Manager (Sr. APM), Public Equities assists the Portfolio Manager and Portfolio Management team in executing the Department Investment Program goals and implementing investment strategies to maximize the risk adjusted returns of the internally-managed Canadian large cap equities portfolio. This consists of rigorous screening and bottom-up analysis of companies to identify high quality candidates for portfolio inclusion. BCI’s investment analysis involves financial and qualitative analysis, meeting with management teams, research analysts, and industry experts with the goal of producing detailed research reports and financial models to support each investment thesis. Experience with Canadian equities is considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or MBA coupled with a minimum of 5-10 years’ investment management experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities with keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (VBA skills considered an asset) and Bloomberg
  • Financial modeling expertise in Excel
  • Professional presentation and writing skills
  • Diplomatic, tactful and strong interpersonal skills
  • Eager, strong work ethic, and desire to learn
  • Passion for the financial markets
