Department Overview

The Wealth Finance department is accountable for the major financial functions of the TD Bank Group's wealth business, providing: business planning, financial analysis, measurement, valuation, and risk assessment services. The Wealth Finance team works closely with the business and centralized financial expertise (e.g., accounting, reporting, taxation) to provide quality expertise and advice to TD Wealth clients, consistent with overall TD Bank Group financial strategy and objectives.

Job Description

The Finance Manager will report to the AVP, Wealth Advice Finance, and will support all Wealth Advice business lines (Financial Planning, Private Wealth Management). The position is responsible for leading the team that delivers value-added management reporting and financial support to the Advice businesses (Financial Planning, Private Investment Advice, Private Investment Counsel, Private Banking, Private Trust, Wealth Advisory Services). This includes preparation and analysis of financial results, creation of management reporting, and support to the executives of the Advice Businesses. The successful candidate must have a good understanding of accounting principles. Familiarity with TDBFG financial systems is an asset, as is experience in the Wealth Management industry and the Wealth Advice businesses.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Lead the team responsible for developing and delivering monthly operating results and commentary to all stakeholders. Ensure reporting is timely and lead the ongoing streamlining of reporting packages.
  • Provide insightful interpretation of key business drivers underlying the business results, highlight key issues and make appropriate recommendations where required.
  • Review monthly revenue accruals, and expense accruals for the Advice Businesses. Provide guidance to analysts in the posting of entries, preparation of financial results and review of queries.
  • Ensure the reconciliation of key financial data to source systems is performed on a monthly basis.
  • Lead and develop a highly effective and respected team of finance professionals by coaching and providing guidance on career / professional development and conducting on-going feedback and performance assessments.
  • Support year-end financial and SOX audits (internal and external).
  • Act as subject matter expert for own area. Provide guidance, advice, and recommendations to support dealings with internal and external partners.
  • Active participation in Finance-wide initiatives and pan-Wealth projects (where appropriate).
  • Actively contribute as a member of the Wealth Advice Finance management team and ensure ongoing communication with the broader Finance team on the status of projects and issues that are relevant to the broader team.
  • Ensure adherence to established guidelines of conduct.


Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations
  • Professional accounting designation or financial designation (CA/CGA/CMA/CFA) would be an asset.
  • Understanding of TDBFG financial systems would be an asset.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Experience developing high quality executive level reporting packages
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong accounting and finance skills.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain strong attention to detail within a highly demanding environment.
  • Proven interpersonal and relationship management skills, including experience working with business partners and senior executives would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team of finance analysts
  • Product knowledge or business experience within Wealth Management or the Advice Businesses would be an asset.
  • Ability to be a highly motivated team player who can work with others within and outside the group, while understanding and managing the relationships between various Wealth businesses.
