Job Summary: The candidate will be responsible for the management and trading of portfolios across Northern Trusts suite of long duration taxable Fixed Income products. The portfolio manager will actively manage portfolio positioning, trade to re-position accounts, make sector recommendations, and contribute to portfolio strategy discussions. Major Duties: Manages bond portfolios across Northern Trusts suite of long duration taxable fixed income products. Implements portfolio strategy through duration/yield curve, sector allocation (corporate, mortgage, treasury, municipal, and asset-backed bonds), and security selection levers in relation to the portfolio performance index and current fixed income policy. Participates in daily/weekly investment meetings and engages in investment discussions. Makes sector recommendations, assesses relative value, and generates trade ideas. Monitors portfolio returns to determine results and the portfolios strategy to determine appropriateness given changing bond markets and client objectives. Assists the client in developing investment objectives and guidelines as appropriate given risk tolerance, tax situation and income needs, integrating current strategies, disciplines, and technology. Facilitates periodic client meetings to assess performance, strategy, reporting etc. Builds and maintains strong relationships with the dealer community and peers. Conducts research and collaborates with other teams to develop new products. Manages ad hoc assignments. Qualifications: At least 5 years or more of investment management and financial markets experience, including portfolio management, trading, and quantitative research. Strong knowledge of investments and financial markets. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong quantitative and financial technology skills (Bloomberg, Aladdin, Excel). Knowledge of fiduciary responsibilities and the legal and regulatory contexts within which investment decisions are made. Demonstrated ability to assess information, make timely decisions, and prioritize numerous tasks. Passion, integrity, creativity, and inquisitiveness. A flexible team player with strong interpersonal skills. Bachelors degree in a financial or quantitative discipline; CFA, or advanced degree preferred.
