POSITION

An existing role for the client, the Director, Head of Non-US Equity Manager Research:

  • Reports to the Managing Director – Global Head of Manager Research;
  • Assists clients, and the broader investment Team, to meet their unique investment objectives through the benefits of active multi-manager portfolio;
  • Leads the Non-US Equity Manager research team of seven analysts, and is actively involved in, the identification, evaluation and monitoring of equity investment managers with superior skills and competitive advantages for firm's research platform; 
  • Develops risk guidelines for external managers;
  • Engages in strategic business development initiatives;
  • Provides key clients with ongoing performance updates;
  • Is a hands-on leader and player/coach.

AREAS OF STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITY

Responsible for hands-on player / coach leadership of the Non-US Equity Manager Research Team to source, research, select and monitor managers to achieve firm fund performance and risk objectives, with the following blend of responsibilities:

  • Work closely with colleagues across the global manager research team to ensure identification of best of breed managers, including supervising and mentoring junior team members;
  • Analyst supervision entails directing coverage, prioritizing work flow, liaising with internal teams, providing constructive feedback and assisting staff as needed;
  • Participate on the Manager Review Committee with oversight of recommendations across asset classes;
  • Build relationships with investment managers and act as a point of contact to provide information about the managers to members of the Global Market Unit;
  • Play an active role in developing firm’s intellectual capital around Global Manager Research;
  • Contribute to and promote firm’s external image through presentations, thought leadership and communication;
  • Conduct in-depth due diligence through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis to assess manager skill.  Due diligence will include data analysis, manager conference calls and on-site visits, and preparation of written due diligence reports;
  • Analyze manager portfolios to understand drivers of risk and return, alpha composition and the robustness of the strategy in various market environments.  The analysis is focused on assessing a manager’s competitive advantage versus its relevant peers;
  • Compose cogent, refutable investment theses for recommended managers, focused on investment edge;
  • Accept accountability for recommended manager decisions;
  • Long-term responsibility to help further develop and implement a process driven culture in a constructive fashion.

EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES

The candidate will possess the following experiences, attributes and characteristics:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working for a fund manager, asset manager or investment consulting firm;
  • Extensive working knowledge (10 years+ experience) of investment strategies, managers, organizations and capital markets for non-US equities;
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail oriented and ability to synthesize data and make deductive decisions;
  • Prior experience in team management and talent development, a plus;
  • Able to deliver convictions with an open mind;
  • Excellent and proven investment judgment;
  • Strong process orientation;
  • Experience in portfolio management or statistical modeling, a plus;
  • Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation skills for internal/external audiences as well as strong listening and questioning skills;
  • Robust organization skills and ability to work effectively under pressure;
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and work ethic;’
  • Good judgment in balancing and prioritizing objectives and goals, both tactically and strategically;
  • Ability to manage diverse working relationships to effectively get work done;
  • Willingness to take initiative, exercise independent judgment and act decisively;
  • Naturally curious and inquisitive;
  • Undergraduate degree and MBA, CFA, CAIA or post-graduate degree required.
