Department Overview

Global Operations and Business Services is a diverse and dynamic group of individuals, whose varied talents and experiences enable us to provide critical infrastructure services that support and/or control the trading, investment, and corporate banking functions of TD Securities (TDS). The Business Controls team within Business Services is a first line of defense function responsible for improving the TDS control environment by establishing consistency and sustainability. We provide oversight and independent challenge through review, inquiry and discussion. We are responsible for supporting and ensuring compliance to several regulatory and Operational Risk Management programs. As well the team is responsible for a broad range of risk related programs, reporting and facilitating the execution of effective audit engagements for our business.

Job Description

You will have an accountability and ownership mindset with a focus on working together with multiple partners to improve TDS's risk profile. You will have a hands-on role including the following responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with TDS business and partners from the second and third lines of defence.
  • Provide oversight and challenge to the TDS business on risk and controls matters.
  • Ensure prompt and thorough resolution of issues to the TDS leadership team.
  • Identify potential opportunities for process changes within business operations.

You will be contributing to the pRCSA & QC program by performing the following:
  • Conduct assessments of business control design and operating effectiveness relating to operational risk, regulatory and compliance requirements. Potential scope will include pRCSA, Basel, SOX, etc.
  • In conjunction with the business, develop and implement an annual testing schedule for all programs/processes supported.
  • Track and monitor the effectiveness and timeliness of remediation plans.
  • Provide support to business to complete pRCSAs and QA/QC testing in compliance with ORM program methodologies and guidelines.

You will promote and champion a positive working environment that minimizes risk, supports innovation, creativity, and strong partnerships.
  • Deliver control environment reporting to appropriate partners.
  • Assist the business with ad-hoc initiatives from a risk and control perspective.
  • Demonstrate awareness of all project dependencies and risks and ensure effective management.


Requirements

  • Strong background and knowledge of capital markets, their functions and processes;
  • Ability to grasp and translate technical concepts, to think independently to present alternatives to resolve issues;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Proven problem solving and decision-making ability;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • A minimum of 3 years of Audit/Risk Management/Compliance experience is preferred;
  • Professional financial or accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CFA etc) is considered an asset.
