SVB Private Bank has been run as an accommodation business serving primarily the personal lending needs of SVBs corporate clients. In 2011, a new Wealth Advisory business was also launched. Today, the Private Bank & Wealth Advisory (PB) is one of the bank's growing divisions and seeks to dramatically accelerate this growth. This position is a critical role to reposition PB from a "place to start" for founders and investors in to a "place to stay" including future generations. PB is in the process of launching a state of the art (cloud based), digitally-led wealth management platform for HNW and UHNW clients. The CIO will be a key influencer on the development of this new platform.

This position Chairs the Investment Committee and oversees all aspects of the investment portfolios for SVB PB including investment and portfolio strategies, capital market assumptions and portfolio construction. As CIO, the position will be the lead on business development for all UHNW clients and will maintain a regular media presence.

During this accelerated growth phase, the CIO will also lead the strategy for building a digital-led, multi-family office offering for the UHNW including Trust and Estate planning. Over the next nine months, SVB Wealth Advisory (RIA exists today) will become dually registered as introducing broker-dealer.

The CIO will be the primary liaison to SVB Capital, creating access for clients and using the broker-dealer to create other innovative products that will serve the unique needs of our innovation economy clients.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative solutions for our target client base - first generation wealth from the innovation economy
  • Provide overall direction on strategic asset allocation for client assets; work closely with the Client team to design investment policy and design asset allocation modeling tools to automate portfolio management function.
  • Build analytical framework for asset allocation and manager selection including intensive quantitative and qualitative fund research processes.
  • Maintain effective and efficient investment processes.
  • Chair the Investment Committee responsible for multi-asset investment decisions implemented in client portfolios; recommend new strategies and changes to existing investment policies based on allocations in tax-aware framework.
  • Explore innovative and new approaches to the investment process.
  • Review all investment portfolio performance and present reports to management.
  • Oversee the selection and training of all new employees in investment-related activities and evaluate performance.
  • Lead internal and external communications.
  • Manages the Investment Portfolio of the corporation conducting investment security analysis and balancing portfolio risk and return with corporate objectives. Generates trade strategies that enhance return and reduce risk.
  • Manages the Wholesale Funding Position of the corporation with the Treasurer in accordance with ALCO directives. Generates trade strategies that enhance return and reduce risk.
  • Provides regular communication to executive management regarding changes in regulations, risks, portfolio performance and market factors affecting valuation of related financial instruments under management.
  • Provides periodic interest rate forecasts and relevant market information regarding interest rates and the economy to multiple internal constituents.

Qualifications

20+ years' experience in financial industry and/or business management. Knowledge related to the above businesses and Wealth Management preferred. 20+ years of experience in portfolio management, preferably for trust accounts.
