Summary of Responsibilities:

Analyzes Company's financial condition, industry trends, future prospects, etc., and makes recommendations

regarding purchase/sale of their stock. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible to independently

make a broad range of critical decisions, escalating to management when appropriate.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Makes recommendations for multiple sectors for the Small Company Equity Portfolio.

  • Has knowledge to be the recognized expert in the assigned industry sector(s).

  • Handles all aspects of Company research: industry conferences, Company visits, calls with management and industry contacts, writing Company reports, valuation analyses and the modeling of financial projections.

  • Keeps abreast of market conditions, economics and investment ideas, etc. Beyond knowledge of specific sectors, has working knowledge of businesses in general (beyond direct sector responsibility).

  • Participates in improving the ongoing stock selection process of the team.

  • Recommends how proxies should be voted for common and preferred stocks owned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Selection Criteria:

  • Must have at least five years of industry experience.

  • Must have three plus years of experience in related field with a history of specifically researching private or public businesses in some capacity (i.e., through consulting and/or sell-side research).

  • Must have one plus years of experience researching companies in a buy-side research analyst capacity.

  • If two previous criteria are not met, will accept at least two years in buy-side research analyst capacity.

  • Demonstrated strong results orientation that is proven through previous performance track record.

  • Proven well-developed feel for the market through a strong understanding of behavioral finance.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, focused and concise manner. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of staff and management.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively influencing a group to a recommended course of action.

  • Proven experience coordinating multiple projects/assignments simultaneously and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis. Must demonstrate a strong attention to detail with excellent organization skills. Expected to cite examples of organization and time management/methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands. Must demonstrate project management experience in planning, executing and maintaining a project from start to finish.

  • Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions. Must be able to cite examples of good decision-making skills when dealing with multiple alternatives. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and use new methodologies. Proven experience in working with complex programs that require identifying complex data and analyzing the quality of the output provided.

  • Demonstrated strong team orientation and experience working effectively within a team. Must provide examples of motivating co-workers in difficult situations.

  • Proven superb presentation skills with experience conveying information in a clear, focused and concise manner. Demonstrated use of strong listening and communication techniques and presentation software.

Work Setting

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.

  • Requires visual acuity to read a variety of correspondence, reports and forms, and to prepare and analyze data.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • MBA and/or CFA.

Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required:

  • Working knowledge of word processing applications.

  • Proficient in spreadsheet applications.

  • Working knowledge of investment software.

Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):

  • CFA (if no MBA).

Position Demands:

  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects.

  • Extensive travel may be required by car and/or plane.
