The Role: Director, Derivatives Index Production
The Location: New York City, NY, USA

The Team: The role will sit on the Data Operations Solutions OFFICE team within IMPG (Index Management and Production Group). The OFFICE Team is responsible for the production and management of a wide range of indices covering global fixed income, options, futures, commodity and economics indices, including the S&P GSCI and S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Indices.

The Impact: The Director for Derivatives Index Production is responsible for the maintenance, calculation and distribution of SPDJI's Options indices, in addition to the Commodities, Futures and Economics Indices. The indices that fall under the purview of this position are some of the most complicated indices we manage and require an advanced knowledge of financial concepts as well as a wide understanding of different asset classes. As part of that role, the Director reviews recommendations for index membership and leads presentations to index committees as a subject matter expert. The Director will be expected to analyze and implement complex index methodologies and solve non-routine problems on an on-going basis. The Director also has managerial responsibility, including employee reviews, development and annual compensation recommendations. Agile Product Owner works with other members within IMPG (Index Maintenance and Production Group) to improve existing procedures and to provide project vision and task prioritization for our internal IT platforms. This includes understanding business processes, writing user stories, grooming product backlog, and user acceptance testing on both BAU improvements and funded projects. Responsibilities:

• Must have ability to understand, interpret and clearly communicate highly complex index methodologies to both internal colleagues and external clients.
• Manage production, maintenance and content delivery through multiple proprietary platforms including real-time index values and end-of-day file delivery through ftp and website.
• Review recommendations for Index Memberships and lead presentations to Index Committee as a subject matter expert.
• Continually assess if indices under purview meet Index Objectives and recommend suitable methodology changes during methodology reviews.
• Must have the ability to serve on various other index committees providing necessary governance to SPDJI branded indices
• Draft, review and approval of index announcements as they relate to index changes to clients and end users in advance of the implementation of the changes.
• Coordinate index launches with the development team and review/implement changes to index methodologies post launch.
• Maintain key relationships with clients in support of the indices.
• Support Sales, Product Management and Client Services by meeting and speaking with clients and index users.

• Understand the market, the customer and the business in order to make sound decisions while ensuring the business meets all regulatory and audit requirements
• Must work across global teams to ensure team members are trained to manage these indices and support client inquiries.
• Must have the ability to manage a group of employees and provide thoughtful analysis of their performance and development
• Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve, requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of business requirements, index management and documentation.
• Participate in the discussion with IT to identify the best technical solutions with limited resources and timeframe
• Work closely with IT to recommend, design and test new functionality and systems as we build out new capabilities

Basic Qualifications:

• Strong understanding and expertise in the Derivatives market including Equity, Fixed Income and Commodities Futures and Options
• Deep understanding of complex financial/indexing concepts
• Strong familiarity with AGILE Scrum Methodology
• Excellent communication skills with partners with diverse backgrounds and demands
• Hands-on experience with collaborating with IT development teams
• Ability to explain and present complex concepts in a concise and easy to understand manner
• Experience dealing with customers in a time-sensitive demanding environment where interpretation of data has both objective and subjective components requiring persuasion and influencing skills.
• Demonstrable experience and comfort working with large volumes of complex data
• Minimum 5 years of professional working experience in a role with commodity or derivatives indexing experience including direct index development experience and working with or as an index end user
• Bachelor's Degree. Advanced degree in computer science, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
• Superior skills in Microsoft Excel, Visual Basic and Database applications and Microsoft Access.
• Ability to program in Python, R or Matlab.
• Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.
• Ability to quickly learn S&P's proprietary index calculation engines.
• Ability to assume responsibility, work with others and handle projects
• Practical experience in Data Science/Data Operations is preferable

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of S&P DJI's index methodologies, processes and proprietary systemsAbility to learn S&P's proprietary index calculation engines.
• Advanced degree in computer science, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
• CFA/CIPM or progression toward these certifications is preferred.
