The VP, Director of North America Product Strategy will oversee a regional team of product strategy professionals, driving evolution of product strategy within the region (US & Canada) aligned with regional business priorities (retail & institutional).  You will apply market, industry and company knowledge to provide insight to clients within the region on investment trends, product development and incubation. You’ll leverage relationships with regional distribution leadership teams, external clients, and gatekeepers and will influence new product, pricing, and positioning strategies. Your primary focus will be to provide strategic direction for product strategy within the region, in support of regional business objectives

What are the ongoing responsibilities of the VP, Director of North America Product Strategy?

Product Strategy

  • Oversees product strategy road-map for the region, partnering with distribution leaders and/or external clients to ensure product development priorities align with regional business plans

  • Applies business and industry expertise to drive and direct regional team in developing product recommendations

  • Identifies and develops product ideas within the region for development and incubation, to capture short-term and long-term regional investment

  • Reviews and assesses new and incubated strategies and analyses expected market demand and client needs

  • Drives product proposals and pricing strategy with senior distribution leaders across the region and with Global Product Committee

Product Research & Development

  • Leads strategic direction for product research and development within the region

  • Identifies potential impact of market, regulatory, industry, and investment trends on regional business priorities

  • Provides insight and anticipates long-term investment trends within the region

  • Evolves product opportunities and recommendations to ensure alignment with regional business priorities

  • Uses understanding of business context/priorities to drive product strategy within the region

Client Engagement & Partnership

  • Builds strong relationships with regional distribution leadership teams and with external clients and gatekeepers

  • Evaluates current and future investment needs across the region

  • Evaluates regional client requirements and product ideas and applies industry and market knowledge to recommend innovative product or pricing solutions

  • Advocates regional product initiatives throughout the product development process

  • Presents regional product trends to senior distribution leaders and at industry forums, client events, and conferences

  • Influences and partners with internal and external stakeholders across the region on product positioning

  • Represents product strategy team at regional distribution team meetings and provides perspective into possible solutions, product innovation, or key areas of focus within the region

Leadership & Development

  • Builds and leads a regional team to develop and position Franklin Templeton products to clients and distribution teams within the region

  • Sets annual goals and priorities for the regional team and manages the delivery of key initiatives

  • Advocates and stimulates innovation by introducing new perspectives and information to the team and establishing policies and best practices that facilitate innovative approaches

  • Develops and leads regional team in their oversight of specific channels, product development, and research

What ideal qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience required / MBA, CFA preferred

  • 10+ years of related industry experience; minimum 5 years of product and/or portfolio experience focused on the institutional market with a financial institution, consultant, or plan sponsor

  • 5-7 years management experience either directly managing employees or playing a strong and effective leadership role in a project management setting

  • Strong knowledge of the North American institutional and retail market, including fee-based advisors, client segmentation (Public, Corporate, E&F, Insurance, Consultant, DB and DC), sales cycle/process, and decision factors across multiple client profiles

  • Comprehensive understanding and a desire to maintain expert knowledge of industry developments, regulatory and market trends, pricing, products & techniques

  • Strong understanding of capital markets with a working knowledge of multiple asset classes

  • Expert functional knowledge of industry data sources (eVestment, Bloomberg, P&I, Factset, Morningstar, Lipper, MPI, Preqin).  Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other office products required.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Self-driven with a positive attitude and a team player.  Strong presentation skills.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.  Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
