Senior Equity Research Analyst & Portfolio Manager

Summary

Senior Equity Analyst and Co-Portfolio Manager for our Sustainable & Responsible Investing (SRI) Equity strategy.  In addition to co-managing the SRI strategy, this role conducts thorough fundamental research to contribute buy/sell/hold investment recommendations to our four model equity strategies across an assigned set of industry sectors.  Generalist flexibility preferred, but experience in healthcare and/or financials is a plus. 

This role debates and collaborates with other sector analysts on ideas and trades.  The primary areas of coverage by the team are large cap US equities with additional coverage of mid cap and international holdings.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable and adaptable to contribute to both traditional and SRI portfolios.

The role will also include some client-facing responsibility managing and advising individual client portfolios across global equities and bonds based on the recommendations of the other equity sector analysts and the fixed income team.  Client are a mix of high net worth families and institutions. 

The ideal candidate will be comfortable collaborating, debating and working in a team environment.  Must also be willing to participate on investment, managerial or administrative committees as appropriate to support growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Co-manages the SRI equity strategy.  Debates and collaborates with sector analysts on ideas and trades
  • Periodically provides written and verbal portfolio manager commentary on assigned strategy to internal and external/client audiences
  • Represents his/her portfolio strategy to the Trust Committee of the bank
  • As a senior analyst, makes buy, sell, or hold recommendations to all internal strategies from assigned sectors based on thorough fundamental analysis
  • Participates in peer review of investment recommendations of team and discussions of portfolio positioning
  • Monitors and analyzes economic releases, corporate earnings, and other market data
  • Attends various investment meetings, industry conferences, and broker/analyst/company meetings
  • Participates in periodic analysis of external managers, funds, or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to supplement portfolios
  • Maintain knowledge of fixed income and other cross asset class opportunities
  • Communicates with an assigned set of clients to ascertain investment objectives and constraints, establish appropriate asset allocation, recommend and implement strategy, and review performance
  • Develops and executes long-term strategic and tactical plans to meet client objectives.
  • Works with Relationship Managers on trust, estate, and financial planning issues for assigned clients
  • Mentors analysts and other members of the team
  • Assists in new business development process by giving investment presentations to individuals and institutional prospects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred
  • CFA designation or other advanced certification preferred
  • Demonstrated success as an analyst and portfolio manager
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in investments in a research or portfolio management position including:
    • Minimum of 8 years in security selection
    • Minimum of 3 years of client facing experience
  • Comfortable in front of clients, including institutional investment committees, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of global markets, economics, and portfolio construction
  • Advanced analytical and technical skills including experience with Bloomberg and/or FactSet
  • Additional programming and data analysis skills helpful, but not required
  • Ability to collaborate, debate, and work in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to participate on investment, managerial, or administrative committees and projects, as appropriate.
  • Some knowledge and experience in best practices around tax-aware portfolio management, trust basics and estate planning is helpful, but not required.
  • Thoughtful fiduciary and risk management perspectives.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Normal office environment.
  • Moderate travel throughout Northeast, as needed.
  • Occasional national travel to meet clients or attend conferences.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
