Blackrock Alternatives Specialists (BAS) helps BlackRock's clients gain access to the investment teams, resources and strategies within our Alternatives strategies group, BlackRock Alternative Investors (BAI), and are tasked with delivering Alternatives-focused solutions that help to solve for our clients specific Alternative Investment requirements. Members of BAS have deep knowledge of Alternatives capabilities which help to drive specialist to specialist conversations. BAS works in partnership with the firm's relationship managers within the Institutional Retail Client Businesses to drive engagement with clients in respect of our Alternatives capabilities. By ensuring that we have high caliber specialists, BAS can maximize our bandwidth and depth of client relationship.

Job Purpose/Background:

Reporting to the Head of BAS APAC, the role will be responsible for developing new business with clients within the Korean market, supporting the continuing growth of assets under management of BAI. As well as positioning BlackRock's overall Alternatives capabilities with investors, the role's primary focus will be on Private Credit strategies, including Direct Lending, Special Situations and Opportunistic Credit, and BlackRock's Private Equity capability set, including Primaries, Secondaries, Co-investments and Long Term Private Capital.

As at 31 March 2019, BlackRock managed c. US$30bn of Credit related assets and over $20bn in Private Equity related strategies, structured as commingled vehicles, co-investments and Separately Managed Accounts. As a BAS Private Markets specialist, you will develop expert knowledge across a variety of credit and private equity strategies.

While this role will have a focus on raising capital for Private Markets (Credit and Private Equity) Alternative investments, all members of BAS are also knowledgeable across the broader BAI platform (e.g. liquid Alternatives strategies, real assets and alternative solutions) and can represent these capabilities to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with BlackRock's Credit and Private Equity Portfolio Managers, Product Strategists and Korean Client Business teams to design and implement a results-orientated sales strategy for clients and prospects within the Korean market
  • Partner with Korea-based investors currently investing in Alternatives to help create customized and/or scalable Private Markets strategies.
  • Work with the Client Businesses to develop education and sales activity with those prospects not currently investing in Alternatives
  • Partner with local Asset Management Companies and Securities houses to position BlackRock's capabilities with prospective investors
  • Ensure participation in strategically important and commercially viable tender/RFPs processes, as well as the sourcing of non-competitive opportunities

Skills/Qualifications:
  • Substantial experience in private markets Alternatives businesses with proven track record of raising capital from investors across the Korea including Sovereign Wealth Funds, Insurance Companies, Credit Unions, Pensions and Securities houses/wealth management
  • Fluency across a range of private markets (Credit and Private Equity) strategies and their investment characteristics
  • Capacity to move fluently between clients, relationship managers and portfolio managers to provide value added perspective and deliverable
  • Ability to demonstrate clear awareness of key issues in the Alternatives market affecting Institutional and Wholesale Retail investors from both an investment, service and regulatory perspective
  • Strong intellectual ability and interpersonal skills to establish his/her credibility with the senior leaders throughout the Firm and throughout the institutional investor community
  • Partnership Orientated - Demonstrates a collaborative and cooperative approach to tasks
  • A strong team player with experience of managing multiple internal stakeholders both regionally and globally
  • Demonstrates a real passion for Alternatives asset classes
  • Understand key drivers of success and a working knowledge of our competitors
  • Ability to lead by example - high ethical standards and strong work ethic
  • MBA or CFA designation preferred
  • Fluent oral and written Korean and English language skills essential
