Treasury and Investment Office

The Treasury and Investment Office (TIO) is responsible for the management of Prudential UK's With-Profits, Annuity and Unit-Linked funds, with more than £170bn of funds under management. TIO works closely with the various asset management businesses within the Prudential Group, and other external managers, to structure multi-asset portfolios aligned with the investment objectives of the relevant client group.

Long Term Investment Strategy Team

The Long-Term Investment Strategy Team is responsible for the key recommendations on Strategic Asset Allocation for the Investment Office funds under management (over £170bn), and also provides other recommendations and advice on hedging / ALM strategy. The foundation for this advice is a deep and broad understanding of the characteristics of asset class returns, starting from a long-term equilibrium perspective, but including views over different (shorter) time horizons and scenarios. This expertise on asset modeling and views is also used widely across the Prudential Group.

SAA

• The Long Term Strategy Team provides advice and recommendations to the UK&E Companies on strategic asset allocation (SAA) and associated tactical asset allocation (TAA) limits (SAA tolerance levels) for the relevant Funds including any hypothecated asset pools.
• The overall objective is to maximise investment returns, subject to a level of risk appetite agreed with the relevant UK&E Companies, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and Prudential Group constraints.
• The Long Term Strategy Team's SAA advice and recommendations will take into account its medium and long term views of expected returns of different asset classes and currencies as well as its views on volatilities and correlations across the asset classes.
• Long Term Strategy Team will collaborate with relevant UK&E stakeholders, including UK&E Risk and Compliance and Finance as appropriate, in the formation of their recommendations. It shall provide advice and recommendations on the SAA on an annual basis for all relevant Funds to the relevant UK&E Companies for approval, and on an ad-hoc basis as required.

Benchmark Design:

• For the With Profits and Unit Linked funds, Long Term Strategy Team design component benchmarks (eg, UK Equities) for each of the Funds. This shall include return benchmarks that align with the overall strategy of the Fund, taking into account risk-return considerations, liquidity, and other practical constraints. This shall also include stock and sector level constraints provided to the underlying fund managers. Such component mandates will be developed in conjunction with the underlying fund managers as appropriate.
• The investment mandates will be reconfirmed with underlying managers at least annually.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design of benchmark components, taking into account risk, return as well as a number of constraints (e.g. liquidity) and practical considerations
• Help design and sense check ALM Strategy
• Research projects using asset knowledge and statistical analysis of historical data
• Research into available quantitative asset models and fitting of the chosen models using statistical data
• Liaise with other teams in the implementation of the Strategic Asset Allocation
• Support Director of Long Term Investment Strategy in other projects as required

You will have:

• Significant experience in investment management, statistical research or asset modeling
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Understanding of long and short term drivers of asset class returns, volatilities and correlations
• Strong understanding of investment risk
• Good organisational skills
• Clear written and oral communication skills
• Highly motivated self-starter and "team player"
• Ability to build and sustain internal and external relationships
• CFA charter holder or Actuarial experience preferred
