The Trading, Lending & Liquidity teams have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients across both our institutional and retail platform, including many of the largest asset owners around the world, public pension plans, corporate pension plans and other institutional investors. The Equity Trading team is part BlackRock's Trading, Liquidity and Lending Group and is responsible for executing equity and equity derivative orders in APAC. This includes substantial volumes of cash equities, CFDs, and listed and OTC derivatives. The desk supports a variety of internal investment teams, including Fundamental, Scientific, Global Macro and market neutral hedge funds, long only funds, ETFs, Index funds and Transition Management.

The role is based in Tokyo and will have three main areas of focus 1) equity execution for Japanese based investment teams 2) Participate in FI/FX trading and guide 3) Trading analysis for APAC regions trading

Responsibilities:
  • Provide 'best execution' across a range of equity instruments for all of Active and Index business in BlackRock Japan
  • Participate in FI/FX trading and guide FI/FX traders to handle equities. Be comfortable with Tokyo traders being multi asset trader.
  • Trading analysis for APAC equity trading team. Partner with trading research teams in other regions to drive initiatives to improve the implementation for all equity traders in APAC
  • Ad hoc client engagement such as trading demo and presentation as required by investment team and client businesses
  • Support trading desk to help manage orders and trade flow in a logical, risk-controlled manner with a high sensitivity to fiduciary responsibilities
  • Monitor market activity in areas of specialization and provide feedback to portfolio managers
  • Support investment teams in terms of information flow, trade ideas and data requests
  • Deal with day-to-day administrative issues in support of trading activities and liaison with trading operations
  • Pro-actively contribute to the investment process to both reduce transaction costs and identify alpha opportunities
  • Work with internal IT and analytics groups to develop systems, analytics and coordinate trading activity
  • Meet with both local and regional regulatory requirements by partnering with Legal and Compliance teams
  • Ad hoc project work

Qualifications:
  • Degree in relevant subject with quantitative content or some experience of conducting empirical research
  • Fluent in both Japanese and English
  • CFA qualification/part qualification would be an advantage
  • 1+ years of relevant trading experience
  • Excellent analytical skills applied in a practical environment
  • Coding skills, preferably in Python or R
  • Some understanding of statistical analysis and modelling but must possess a passion for how these techniques may be applied to improve trading implementation.
  • Some understanding of the liquidity and microstructure of APAC equity markets but a passion to learn
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with multiple partners and stakeholders in HK, Tokyo and globally
  • Open to relocation opportunities, it is expected that the role will lead to mobility within BlackRock for the right candidate

  • Well organized, disciplined approach to work with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic with high level of self-motivation. Role is working within a larger APAC trading team with most members based in HK.
