In response to our strategic plans to grow our Business Credit Card portfolio, we are adding key underwriting roles to our Centralized Card Management Team (CCMT). We are looking for the right individual to contribute to this exciting opportunity by providing credit expertise helping some of the most influential entrepreneurs and investors launch and grow their business globally. We serve companies in the innovation space including hardware, software, fintech, life science, as well as premium wine clients.

The core responsibility of this position is to mitigate credit risk while supporting the bank's growth initiatives. This includes managing the full credit life cycle, including assessing the credit worthiness of the bank's clients through detailed and precise credit assessments, stress credit management and preparation of clearly articulated credit presentations.
  • This individual will apply industry knowledge and subject matter expertise to effectively perform the following:
  • Lead underwriting due diligence, structuring and documenting case reviews for complex and stress credits.
  • Prepare clearly articulated credit presentations with thoughtful and appropriate recommendations.
  • Monitor both the business credit card portfolios' credit improvement /deterioration in order to proactively take prompt and timely risk mitigation action when necessary.
  • Provide meaningful assessment, reporting and feedback on portfolio performance.
  • Review and ensure timely updates to credit card facility maturity dates.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced staff members to improve proficiency and efficiency within the team.
  • Work closely with other related bank business partners to manage stress credits.

The ability to conduct credit analysis to underwrite and adjust business credit lines utilizing both traditional financial information and small business behavior characteristics is required. Data management, commercial credit analysis and excellent communication skills are required to be successful in this role.

Qualifications
  • BS/BA Degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Math or Economics with 5+ - year direct work experience in commercial credit products.
  • Demonstrated expertise in commercial credit underwriting and portfolio management is required as is the ability to be consultative and influential on risk related decisions that could impact the long term health of the organization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office applications (specifically, Outlook, Excel, Visio, Word, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of SAS, SQL or other data management computer language is a plus but not required
  • Must have strong professional writing skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and quickly gain a thorough knowledge of SVB's credit policy, operational procedures as well as payment products to work effectively with internal Commercial Banking clients and stakeholders.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills as well as excellent interpersonal communication and facilitation skills in order to lead meetings or discussions with subject matter experts and other project contributors or stakeholders.
  • Must be able to collaborate with all related business partners internally and externally.
Preferred Experience:
  • MBA a plus, CFA a plus. 5+ years of strong and direct experience in commercial credit analysis, commercial financial facility underwriting, credit and account management, and portfolio monitoring. Prefer deep experience from a large financial institution that has credit product offering to small business: i.e. Chase, Wells, American Express, Bank of America, etc.
