Based in Central London, the Investment Office (IO) oversees the management of the client investment strategies delivered through an outsourced investment management model. This team has accountability for defining and overseeing appropriate investment mandates for its products, ensuring performance delivery of model portfolios and robust processes for underlying manager selection and portfolio implementation.

The Position

This is a new position that reports to the Head of Investment Management. The role holder will be responsible for the effective oversight, design and delivery of enhancements and development of the investment offer, with particular focus on third party manager analysis and selection.

Key activities include:
  • Develop and maintain processes to ensure robust oversight of the strategic investment partner in their manager selection, providing appropriate challenge and critical assessment of allocations and overall portfolio trends.
  • Responsibility for investment aspects of specific strategic, operational and investment offer related projects, working across teams by providing the appropriate SME input and IO leadership or representation.
  • Responsible for relevant customer and competitor insight and tracking of industry developments that may inform the investment development strategy
  • Disseminating development plans and vision and seeking feedback from front office and executives to refine or reshape plans. Keeping a wide set of internal partners updated on developments and progress.
  • Responsibility to deputise for the Head of Investment Management and the Chief Investment Officer when appropriate.
  • Responsibility to deputise for the CIO in media engagements for comments to journalists and financial planning publications
  • Work effectively with Change teams to drive delivery of projects across the wider business by representing the IO, to ensure that the investment philosophy and investment design is embedded and those projects deliver the desired benefits for clients and the business.
  • Supporting the creation of robust Business plans as required for the development of the investment offer, and providing input and leadership in creating the benefits case as well as supporting Budget requests
  • Engaging with key service providers, both internal and external, to share plans and procure cooperation and support as well as specific delivery and if appropriate funding contributions from such providers
    Experience, Skills, Capabilities required
  • Experienced Investment business professional with an SME level knowledge of multi-manager selection, investments and regulated funds, discretionary managed portfolio services and asset management solutions
  • Strong knowledge of instruments and systems used in the analysis and ongoing assessment of investment managers
  • Broad based understanding of financial planning products, regulated investment advice and asset management
  • IMC, CFA preferable
  • Strong background in delivering written and presented communications to clients.
  • Experience in engaging with investment solution providers, project managers and stakeholders to deliver new products or propositions to market
  • Able to defend confidently and strongly client interests and challenge providers as appropriate
  • Ability and track record of working across teams and in providing leadership to various stakeholders in achieving a common goal
  • Self-starter able to work under pressure
