Aviva utilise both Internal and External Credit Assessment Institution (ECAI) methodologies for credit rating purposes, responsibility for which resides with 2nd Line Risk, supported by 1st Line Credit. This new position will perform a meaningful role in terms of the associated assessment and oversight processes.

This position will take the lead on Credit Rating Methodologies in order to support investment activity and management of portfolio risks. This will include owning the review of all new rating methodologies, material adjustments, efficiency of existing approaches, and showcasing findings to key vital business partners. It will be a highly visible role involving engagement with all functions involved in the investment lifecycle. The role holder will therefore could make a major contribution to ensuring a "Best in Class" approach is maintained.

Some aspects of the role will include:
  • Assessing and developing new internal credit rating methodologies to support the expansion of investment activity into new asset classes, sectors and geographies
  • Providing SME input and challenge into the existing methodologies, including the annual review and assessment of the efficiency of the same
  • Presenting findings to pivotal governance forums and committees that span the approval of new investments, management of existing exposure and regulatory compliance
  • Liaising with ECAIs, the PRA and auditors/consultants on rating methodology related matters and acting also as a focal point for related projects and requests

What knowledge, skills & experience are we looking for?
  • Extensive experience of working with credit rating methodologies, ideally gained from working within ECAIs, and if not, then large financial institutions.
  • Either a relevant degree (economics finance, accounting or related discipline) or relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. CFA)
  • A detailed understanding and experience of credit risk across multiple asset classes, products and risk profiles
  • Experience across all segments of the credit lifecycle from origination to portfolio management, and performing to non-performing status
  • The ability to apply conceptual thinking to identify and resolve critical issues
  • A high level of proficiency in accounting principles and techniques
  • The ability to give advice and mentorship within specialisation to staff at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, plan and adapt
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to influence decision-making at senior levels
  • A desire to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external contacts
  • Knowledge of regulatory capital requirements and the management of credit risk for financial services firms
