Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM), the asset management arm of Charles Schwab Corporation, has approximately $400 Billion in assets under management (AUM) and is one of the nation's largest retail money managers. The Municipal Research Group is looking for an Analyst whose focus will be on the general government and essential utility sectors across the yield curve and credit spectrum. The Analyst will be responsible for:
The Analyst will report to a senior member of the credit group but will also work closely with other senior team members to gain a broader understanding of Schwab's approach to these sectors.

- Analyzing issuers and debt structures within the general government and essential utility sectors,
- Determining internal issuer/security ratings
- Preparing written reviews and oral presentations for review committees,
- Providing on-going surveillance of holdings in the sector, and
- Maintaining internal sector databases.
The Analyst will report to a senior member of the credit group but will also work closely with other senior team members to gain a broader understanding of Schwab's approach to these sectors.
Key factors for success in this role:
- Knowledge and experience to assess a broad range of general government and essential utility credits
- Ability to rapidly provide a recommendation on the purchase of securities currently in the market
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in making appropriate decisions on credits in the market and in the Schwab Funds' portfolios
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFA preferred
- 3-5 years of general government or utility sector credit experience at rating agency, bond insurer or buy-side firm.
- Ability to think strategically, evaluate industry and economic trends, and apply analysis to make appropriate investment recommendations for the funds
- Familiarity with debt and investment portfolio strategies for governmental issuers
