Under the direction of the MD, Global Corporate Funding, the Senior Manager, ABS Securitization is responsible for proactively identifying, recommending, structuring and executing the Bank's asset securitization corporate funding activities with the objective of minimizing the Bank's funding costs and diversifying the Bank's investor base.

BMO has one of the most diverse ABS programs covering auto, HELOC, credit card and mortgage asset class. The programs together account for $11 billion in outstandings with annual issuance in excess of $5 billion. The incumbent will lead the ongoing development and renewal of various ABS programs, working with key stakeholders on program documentation as a result of regulatory or strategic changes.

The role also develops and recommends the Bank's ABS investor marketing program in support of diversifying the Bank's investor base; monitors the external market and global regulatory developments to ensure the Bank adopts best practices in this area; and, when required represent the Bank in the external market through engagement with the investment community. The role also maintains the primary relationship with investment dealers ensuring the Bank is getting robust coverage on the ABS markets and assessing investment dealer performance to support deal syndicate recommendations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Business Delivery & Operational Effectiveness (Strategy)

  • Proactively identifies, recommends, and executes securitization transactions.
  • Proactively identifies new securitization opportunities and leads cross-functional teams to build securitization structuring and reporting capabilities in these new areas to minimize the Bank's cost of funds
  • Partner with Capital Management Group to structure and execute capital productivity transactions (i.e. risk transfer transactions).
  • Provide recommendations to the MD that contributes toward the securitization funding strategy.
  • Responsible for monitoring the market environment and related metrics and ensure the Bank has access to diversified and cost-effective funding sources in Canada and internationally that directly contribute to the Bank's bottom line.
  • Implements and oversees the end-to-end securitization structuring and transaction approval process across multiple banking groups to ensure it operates effectively and in a low risk manner.
  • Oversees the monitoring of program triggers and recommends actions in the event the triggers are being approached.
  • Partners with Senior Bank Executives, internal colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver results
Change & Innovation (Advisory)
  • Utilizes specialized market knowledge and business judgment to identify cost-effective funding for the Bank and recommends transaction execution.
  • Demonstrates strong project management, time management and relationship management skills to successfully manage the securitization and cross-functional teams and the structuring / execution of securitization transactions.
  • Analyzes new securitization opportunities to determine if a transaction would be value added to the organization
Risk Management and Control (Governance and Analysis/Results)
  • Ensures transactions are executed flawlessly with sound judgment at all times to ensure the Bank's reputation is maintained in the marketplace.
  • Under the direction of the MD, plays a leading role in the creation, renewal and maintenance of the Bank's securitization programs to ensure they are current and active. Responsible for change management process as it relates to existing securitization structuring requirements
  • Participates in the development and implementation of applicable policies, standards, and operating procedures to ensure processes operate in a low risk, sustainable manner. Monitor compliance across the enterprise and provide recommendations for corrective action, if necessary.
  • Oversee the planning, forecasting and analysis of securitization balance sheet and P&L in conjunction with Securitization Finance Operations and Corporate Controllers
  • Review transaction pricing and monthly model output prepared by Manager, Securitization to ensure results are accurate
  • Oversee the development, usage and vetting process for all securitization models with the Model Risk Vetting and Valuation Product Controls Groups
Client & Relationship Management (Support)
  • Work closely with MD to develop and manage internal relationships with key partners and Business groups to ensure clear lines of communication and appropriate support is available for time-sensitive transaction execution. Influence stakeholders in the development of initiatives.
  • Support the MD and participate in representing the Bank in industry forums and with regulators in the development of securitization practices to ensure the Bank's objectives are achieved
  • Provide leadership by recruiting, developing and maintaining high quality of funding team and ensure that necessary processes are in place.
  • Responsible for funding team training and development.
  • Responsible for providing ongoing feedback on performance, ensuring timely completion of annual review process and holding ongoing career discussions.
  • Provide leadership to team members to ensure securitization objectives are completed
  • Ensure that skill levels remain commensurate with the requirements of the position. Responsible for identifying skills gaps and taking appropriate actions to close those gaps


Qualifications
Knowledge:
General knowledge of economic, social and political forces and marketplace trends
One or more of the following: MBA Finance, CA, CFA, CMA
7-10 years experience in Investment Banking, Capital Markets, Treasury, or Finance
Expert knowledge of financial analysis and financial modeling
Strong understanding of accounting concepts, including fair value accounting
Expert knowledge of securitization or capital markets with transaction experience
Strong knowledge of various research tools, including Bloomberg
Strong knowledge of the Bank's structure and accounting systems
Deep understanding of the function as outlined, and of related industry best practices
Able to apply designation/education and financial experience in a financial services organization
