The Manager Financial Planning & Analysis is accountable to support the design, develop and implementation of financial business solutions that drive measureable business outcomes. The Manager Financial Planning & Analysis plays the role of strategic financial consultant to the line of business leaders to assist them with the development of their financial strategies to ensure overall financial performance.

This job is accountable to execute financial analytics to provide insights to drive business results, including conducting research and analysis, generating ideas, structuring data and building solutions. The Manager FP&A is also responsible for supporting stress testing initiatives and development of the annual financial plans and quarterly forecasts for the business.

The Manager Financial Planning & Analysis is accountable to partner with key line of business leaders to execute the mandate of the job.

Business Delivery & Operational Effectiveness

  • Support the design, development and implementation of analytic solutions that meet business objectives including but not limited to:
    • Participating in interviews, brainstorming sessions and workshops with key stakeholders to identify business objectives
    • Translating business objectives into strategic solutions as a Finance, Analytics and Business subject matter expert
    • Building high quality analytic solutions that are intuitive for senior audiences, simple to maintain, and drive real business outcomes
    • Building high quality financial analytics that are reusable with scenario and sensitivity planning
    • Building financial plans and forecasts that are driver based
  • Prepare the Operating Group's Annual Business Plan, targets and forecasts for review and approval by the CFO
  • Provide decision support to senior management. Provide support/advice for certain special projects, acting as finance representative.
  • Support the development, implementation and management of financial processes, analyses and reports to ensure that complete and accurate financial information is provided to Operating Group leadership to be used in business decision processes and for performance management and external reporting.
  • Negotiate complex issue resolution, exercise judgement and make recommendations on matters falling outside standard policy.
  • Review financial information prepared by others for reasonableness and flag areas of interest to Relationship Manager/Manager/Senior Manager to ensure results are understood and opportunities and areas of concern are properly addressed in a timely manner.

Client & Relationship Management
  • In conjunction with the Senior Manager, support key relationships with partners to build a lasting foundation of trust and advice
  • Support the successful application of financial solutions into business solutions and transition to the business for implementation and measurable financial results
  • Support planning and forecasting activities for the Operating Group to understand business requirements ensuring that reporting provided meets business needs and to remain apprised of changes or initiatives that would impact financial reporting.
  • Provide proactive advice, creative solutions and analysis to line of business / Operating Group
Risk Management and Control
  • Identify potential risk situations within the scope of work, make recommendations and/or escalate to senior management, where appropriate.
  • Understand risks inherent in the operating area and ensure appropriate actions, including accuracy and safeguarding of all documentation, and any other requirements to ensure operational integrity is maintained.
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of First Principles, Our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Corporate Policy, as well as all applicable legislation, regulatory rules and requirements, and Bank standards, P&Ps for such things as potential conflicts of interest, safeguarding of customer information, trading in securities, anti-money laundering, privacy and disclosure of outside business activities.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality is maintained for both customer and Bank information to protect the customer and the Bank and to ensure compliance with Bank P&Ps.
Change & Innovation
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Data Team to champion the adoption of standard enterprise tools
  • Partner with all stakeholders to ensure a continuous improvement mindset toward stress testing initiatives.
  • Maintain an awareness of best practices to improve/refine processes that may increase productivity and/or correct any deficiencies.
  • Identify design, process and other inefficiencies in the analysis and reporting delivery system and suggest improvement or new requirements.
Business Performance Management
  • Execute initiatives in line with the enterprise strategy and direction
  • Educate business partners on the business solutions and financial plans by effectively communicating and story boarding the approach, the benefits and the possible outcomes
  • Build solutions with the enterprise direction to facilitate integration across analytics
  • Deliver significant ad-hoc analysis to support strategic and tactical decision making by Operating Group leadership
  • Provide analysis of results and identify critical information for productivity initiatives


Qualifications
Knowledge:
  • Possesses a university degree in business/commerce, data sciences, engineering, finance and/or mathematics (graduate level degrees preferred) and/or 5 to 7 years of experience in analytics, finance and/or consulting; CA CPA or engineering graduates with MBA or CFA a plus
  • Possess advanced knowledge of design and analysis methodologies to work in an agile development environment
  • Familiar with one or more industry leading data and analytics tool sets including, but not limited to, TIBCO Spotfire, TIBCO BPM, SQL, SAS and Tableau
  • If already a BMO employee, demonstrates solid knowledge of BMO's vision, mission, and strategy
Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, with capability of effectively interacting with senior managers and executives
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking skills, and integrative skills
  • Strong ability to understand, analyze and review financial spreadsheets, typically using Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities without compromising quality
  • Excellent relationship management skills and an ability to establish conducive working relationships with stakeholders across different business groups
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and establish priorities
  • Able to work with structured and unstructured data sets to build financial analytics
  • Able to build a good fact base, apply sound reasoning, and generate relevant recommendations that get implemented and lead to business success
  • In-depth innovative thinking and creativity
  • Is able to handle multiple priorities
  • Is able to work highly independently and work successfully with a team that has diverse skills, knowledge, and educational backgrounds
