Credit Risk Analyst - Risk and Compliance - London

Aviva Investors are currently looking for a permanent Credit Risk Analyst to join our Risk and Compliance Function in London

The Role

Based in our Head office in the City of London you will be a critical member of the Aviva Investors (AI) second line credit risk team within the Chief Risk Officer's function. You will provide support to the Credit Risk Team in developing, implementing and managing the AI Credit Risk Framework, Policies, Risk Appetite Statements and Key Risk Indicators in conjunction with AI's strategic and business objectives.

The main credit risks at AI are arising from and/or associated with
  • Counterparty exposures from liquidity investments as well as derivatives and securities finance transactions;
  • AI's Real Assets Alternative Income business covering illiquid investments within real estate debt, infrastructure debt and equity, private corporate debt/leveraged finance and structured credit.

Responsibilities
  • Collaboration with the origination and fund management teams as well as the 1st lines of credit teams in shaping proposals to Investment Committees, Review & Ratings Committees, other credit risk-related committees and approval processes.
  • Ensure adherence to AI's Credit Risk Management Frameworks / Appetite Statements / Policies / Standards as well as the relevant Aviva Group provisions.
  • Ensure diligent monitoring and reporting of Counterparty exposures from liquidity, derivatives and securities finance transactions as well as key credit risk indicators, with appropriate and timely escalation as required.
  • Ensure that credit risk-related proposals and decisions have been properly and diligently reviewed and that all relevant considerations have been adequately brought to the attention of decision-makers.
  • Reporting and escalating operational, financial and regulatory risk issues as identified.

Key Performance Indicators
  • Satisfactory outcomes of reviews of effectiveness of the 2nd line credit risk team.
  • Timeliness and appropriateness of credit risk issues identified, escalated and managed.
  • Satisfactory collaboration with people across various business lines and functions.
  • Feedback from key stakeholders.

Competence
  • Maintaining any necessary professional memberships / authorisations including CPD.
  • Standards and Governance
  • Making sure that any policies owned by the Credit Risk Team are appropriate, effectively communicated, embedded, regularly reviewed and monitored for compliance.
  • Making sure that committees have adequate resources and deliver against their terms of reference.

Requirements

Essential
  • Credit Analysis experience from a large bank or investment manager, covering at least one of the following areas, is a must:

1. Banks

2. Debt transactions related to at least one of the following areas asset classes: Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Corporate Debt/Leveraged Finance, Structured Credit
  • Candidates, who have backgrounds combining coverage of banks with at least one other debt asset class outlined above, will be highly regarded.
  • Experience, preferably gained in a large bank or investment manager, in assessing Counterparty credit risk arising from derivative and cash management transactions with financial institutions.
  • Experience of and familiarity with credit ratings assessments and methodologies across a broad range of asset classes and types of counterparties.
  • Credit risk portfolio management experience.
  • Educated to Degree level

Highly Desirable
  • Understanding of derivative transactions, including execution and documentation
  • Professional qualifications in Accounting / Banking / Finance / Business such as ACA/ACCA, IMC, CFA
  • Strong financial modelling skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility, versatility and adaptability
