  • The Manager of Research will be responsible for leading the operations of the Research team as it conducts macroeconomic research and analysis and complex data analytics as a service to the extended risk organization, as well as the firm and its clients.
  • This position will directly support firm strategy by helping senior leadership understand how emerging risks and changes in the macroeconomic environment can impact firm strategy and financial performance, and offer actionable insights and intelligence to help the firm navigate its operating environment.
  • This position will also partner with other business units to promote risk practices, and share risk intelligence and insights both with the business and with TDA clients by publishing professional research reports and speaking engagements.
Responsibilities:
  • Developing and supporting firm strategy by overseeing the economic research and analysis required to make sound business decisions and helping senior leaders (SOC) understand how emerging risks can impact firm performance
  • Developing and implementing a framework for Scenario Analysis to be used in the identification and management of financial and non-financial risk and in estimating minimum capital requirements
  • Responsible for supporting the Enterprise Risk organization and Trader strategy in their goal of communicating global analytics and risk intelligence to clients through the firm's multi-channeled communication strategy
  • Participation in business strategy meetings and the firm's risk committees to provide risk intelligence and facilitate informed decision making backed by sound risk principles
  • Provide senior management briefings on the global economy and emerging risk trends, and represent risk interests through potential speaking engagements as well as various internal business strategy meetings and committees
  • Lead Enterprise Risk's strategy to connect with clients by publicizing risk tools available to clients, communicating emerging risk trends, and publishing risk content through various firm-sponsored mediums
  • Leading the team's development of new data visualizations, publications, and presentation materials to clearly convey business intelligence and complex macroeconomic concepts in a concise and easy-to-understand manner.
  • Build strong partnerships firm-wide in order to further the firm's understanding of global markets and events, and their impact on our client base, leading to better business decisions informed by risk intelligence
  • Collaborate with other business units and partner with research groups across the firm to help ensure any research and analysis conducted is backed by sound macroeconomic forecasts and a strong understanding of risk principles and intelligence
  • Lead the development of a macroeconomic analysis and econometrics framework based on statistical analysis, and serve as a resource for other business units and the extended risk team to consult on macroeconomic risk trends and analysis
  • Directing complex analytics and behavioral analysis on the TDA client base to further the firm's understanding of how global financial markets and various catalysts influence client behavior and risk tolerance
  • Responsible for supporting the Enterprise Risk organization as well as Active Trader in their research agenda as part of the firm's client communication strategy, and providing risk metrics and intelligence and macroeconomic forecasting and modeling
  • Publishing market commentary and research which combine macroeconomic analysis with insights and analysis on client behavior to strengthen our firm's risk management practices and provide valuable intelligence to our business partners
  • Serve as a resource for other business units and the extended risk team to consult on emerging risk trends and research macroeconomic events and volatility catalysts which can materially impact the firm and our clients
Requirements:
  • 4 Year College Degree or Equivalent Experience (Majors: Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer). Graduate Degree Preferred
  • 5+ Years of Experience
  • Preferred:
    • CFA
    • Series 7 and 24
    • Professional Risk Management certification
  • Extensive experience in Risk Management with deep knowledge of critical risk management functions
  • Expert-level understanding of macroeconomic theory and econometric modelling approaches
  • Advanced understanding of financial markets and instruments including equities, options, futures & forex
  • Strong ability to present and translate complex concepts and analytics so they are easy to understand
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships and communicate (written, orally) with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to balance multiple complex and sometimes competing objectives to drive projects or initiatives forward
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to probe sensitive issues while maintaining the highest level of integrity and objectivity
  • Understanding of Quantitative Finance, Data analytics and Financial Risk Modeling concepts and theory.
  • Experience with advanced data mining techniques and analytics skills using SQL, SAS, R, Python
  • Experience using data visualization to clearly convey business intelligence using software such as tableau
  • Strong knowledge of MIS reporting structures
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements listed
