Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Regional Head of Traded Risk Analytics.

Principal responsibilities
  • The job holder is responsible for leading the development and validation of all traded risk analytic models used for risk management, stress testing and generating capital requirement for Asia.
  • From a regional perspective, the role is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance of traded risk models and locally developed and implemented models meet the Group modeling standards
  • Implementing governance to manage model risk arising in Traded Risk within the region,
  • Manage all committees on model governance, model performance and usage, representing Global Risk Analytics and HSBC in traded risk analytics related discussions in regulatory, industry, academic and internal senior management forums
  • Provide analytic solutions to Traded Risk and Global Markets that we support.
  • Develop new risk models and implementation of enhancements in existing models to ensure relevance of models with changes in market conditions, business and regulatory expectations.
  • Engage with regulators to secure regulatory approval for new risk models and ongoing approval for existing models.
  • On-going surveillance of the regulatory policy trends and emerging industry practices to identify potential threats to the bank.

  • Doctoral / Master's Degree or other advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field, and related professional qualifications e.g. CFA / FRM / PRM / CPA / CQF
  • Very strong knowledge of global and regional/country regulatory landscape and ability to access the impact of proposed changes in regulatory rules to the bank, especially those pertaining to model risk, as well as capital requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of Traded risk including counterparty credit and market risk and some understanding of challenges within Financial Crime and Regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of systems which impact RWA, Stress Testing, Economic Capital and Provision and compliance calculations
  • Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key players in industry and regulators with aim of influencing policy decisions in order to protects banks interests.
  • History of working in a global role or role of similar complexity, with a verifiable track record
  • Proven leadership experience and the gravitas and ability to build connections and work collaboratively across boundaries and to provide sound counsel to senior leaders of HSBC
  • Resourceful, creative and inquisitive approach to dealing with high levels of complexity and ambiguity
  • Highly motivated, entrepreneurial and autonomous, with the sensibility to priorities and negotiate under pressure
  • Proven ability to formulate, disseminate and implement firm wide strategic initiatives
  • Able to operate effectively against uncertainty and on unfamiliar ground
  • Ability to identify and assess risk trends, both internally and externally
  • Thorough understanding of advanced risk management techniques across a diverse portfolio
  • Ability to assess the overall effectiveness of model systems through the combination of statistical measures and an assessment of the overall conceptual soundness of the approach and result.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical model details to senior management and other areas of the bank in non-technical business language
  • Experience with managing a team from varying background
