Job Details

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has primary responsibility for the delivery of operational excellence in pursuit of the society’s strategic objectives.  The position requires an experienced manager with the ability to implement strategic objectives through excellent people skills and strong project management capabilities.  The COO role is a key member of the senior management team, who co-ordinates with the CEO and reports directly to the CFA Society Switzerland Board. 

 

The position will be based in the Zürich/Zug area. Geneva is an important other centre.

Travel will be about 20 percent of the time, including travel to Geneva.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

    •    Responsible for designing, implementing and assessing the organizational planning process that effectively executes the strategic plan, addressing operating constraints and risks. Accountable for the planning process that generates the annual work plan and operating & capital budgets, and the society’s annual report.

    •    Lead, motivate, and develop the society’s staff by providing direction and support to ensure optimal performance. Consistently communicate job expectations; take appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards. Foster teamwork and cultivate an environment of high morale. Support ongoing staff development.

•        Ensure that best practice project management processes are established, implemented, and monitored across the team. Contribute to conference and event management, including planning content, developing format, assuring excellent execution and concluding performance reporting. 

•        Manage the technology platforms and products, including the website. Assess the society’s current technology configuration, actively monitor the technology strategy, communicate and respond to opportunities related to the evolution of the technology.

    •    Responsible for reporting to the CFA Society Switzerland board to support operational and strategic level decision making, including quarterly Board reports, monthly update reports to the executive committee, annual planning reports, and performance  information. Co-ordinate the annual financial audit and preparation of the annual report.

    •    Work collaboratively with society volunteers. Support volunteer recruitment, participation and recognition. Contribute to programs that provide value to society members, such as continuing education, career development programs and networking opportunities.  Provide volunteer experience that enlarge member’s professional life.

    •    Acquire and apply in-depth knowledge of the CFA Institute portfolio of products and services  Closely collaborate with CFA Institute to use appropriate technical and financial management practices.

    •    Other duties as assigned

 

 

KEY SKILLS

    •    Successful staff leadership experience with a passion for developing and motivating teams and the ability to work effectively through the team to accomplish key objectives. Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and coordinate teams in complex matrixed environments

    •    Strong project management skills. High level of organisational and time management skills; flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities.

    •     Financial and resource planning acumen. Experience developing metrics and targets, automating reporting processes, and operationalising performance practices (e.g., business reviews, planning)

    •    Leadership in operations transformations, Lean operations, standing up of new functions/teams, or delivery of new tech-enabled capabilities

    •    Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills; with the ability to distill complex information and translate into clear indicated actions for local teams

    •    Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    •     Excellent English required, German, French and/or Italian helpful

    •    Ability to collaborate inside and outside organisation to develop consensus and create strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.   Experience within the CFA Institute and local societies preferred. 

    •    CFA designation or commitment to progress preferred

    •    Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    •    Minimum 5 years’ experience in a business management environment/role. Global cultural orientation and working experience.  

   •   Authorization for working in Switzerland required.
