Scope of Job:
  • To provide insightful, relevant, succinct and timely credit analysis of a portfolio of SCB's CB clients, including managing the credit risk associated with the portfolio and ensuring high quality of the assigned portfolio.
  • To have overall accountability for consistency and coherence of the complete BCA package submitted to Risk. This includes responsibility for proposing counterparty credit grades via the relevant scorecard, and ongoing monitoring for credit-material events. While the portfolio will be industry / geography specific in focus, the role extends to analysing other clients as may from time to time be required.
  • To work as a team with the Relationship Manager (RM) on a specified portfolio and facilitate revenue growth in the portfolio.
Responsibilities/Challenges:

Credit Analysis:
  • Interact with the client including onsite client visit/factory visit on needed base, gather deal requirements, financial statements and other inputs for performing quality analysis and due diligence.
  • Conduct market, industry and client research, e.g. reference check/market check - buyers, suppliers, competitors and lenders on best effort.
  • Assessment of the Client's competitive positioning within its industry, including key risk aspects.
  • Work with RM and product partners in structuring credit solutions for the clients and ensuring the appropriateness of the products, including:

a) Obtaining all pre clearances like in the credit pre-screening session

b) Preparing & presenting name clearance and BCAs;

c) Expediting approvals.

  • Responsible for end-to-end BCA process for fast credit approval, including:

a) Preparation all the tools like Raptor, Scorecard, Spreads, ESRA, BCA Checklist, RoRWA etc.;

b) Assessment of Client's strategy (e.g. funding, treasury, liquidity, etc.), management strength, experience and track record and corporate governance;

c) Assessment of balance sheet strength, alongside cashflow and profitability vulnerability via ratio analysis and/or stress testing and working out current/forward year base forecast performance expectation, as well as proposed Covenants and Risk Triggers;

d) Completion of Group Mandate/BCA Part 1, Part 2 (including term sheet whenever needed) in alignment with Credit Policy and local CPS.

  • Liaise with Credit/GAM/FAM on BCA and other credit issues and ensure quick turnaround on queries.
  • Ensure compliance of all regulatory credit requirements.
Credit Review and Post Monitoring:
  • Monitor quality of the portfolio by tracking daily excess / past due and strictly complying with necessary reporting procedures.
  • Lead the post monitoring process, including risk triggers, covenants and other credit conditions and ensure to report appropriately, e.g. timely submission of quality PBOC Quarterly Credit Review Reports.
  • Assist CA Team Leader/Head to ensure zero BCA overdue.
  • Work with RM to ensure the proper maintenance of credit files and ensure audit readiness whenever necessary and work with RM to follow up audit issues.
  • In partnership with the RM, ensure timely identification of accounts to be put in ASTAR/EAR as per the bank's policies and guidelines, including attend EAR/MTM calls along with the RM.
  • Preparing the Initial Downgrade Report (IDR) for transferring accounts to GSAM.
  • Work with RM to monitor overall RoRWA at account level.
  • Coordinate and prepare for credit discussion meetings, and conduct portfolio review /credit stress testing/specific industry reviews whenever required, and etc.
  • Handle any ad hoc projects, duties or assignments as determined by LM from time to time
Stakeholder Partnership:
  • To partner the team's two key stakeholder communities, RMs and Risk, supporting the former in developing and executing their client strategies and both in respect of credit analysis-relevant matters. Maintaining integrity in analysis at all times is critical.
Team Development:
  • To assist CA Team Leaders/Heads in improving and enhancing the experiences of the team, as well as the quality of credit analysis produced, includes on-job coaching and supporting the development of newer and less experienced members of the team.

Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years' relevant experience gained either in banking, treasury or accounting environment.
  • Strong analytical ability, focused on the assessment and calibration of credit risk.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (in English), with proven ability to work across cultures and within a dynamic environment.
  • Able to hold credible dialogue at all levels of the organisation, as well as with clients.
  • Well organized, able to multi-task and balance competing demands.
Educational Qualifications:
  • University graduate preferably with related experience in corporate banking. MBA or CFA qualifications advantageous, but not required.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting and financial principles gained by experience or qualification.
  • CRC-CB credit certification (or approved equivalent) within 12 months of start date.
