Investment Counselor

Boutique Investment Advisor – Beverly Hills, CA

Boutique Beverly Hills investment advisor is seeking a highly motivated professional to serve as an investment counselor. Ideal candidates will have: 7-10 years of meaningful investment management/investment counseling experience; a combination of investment/research skills with an ability to provide superior service to high net worth clientele; strong knowledge of financial theory and principles/markets, financial statements and economics; CFA and/or MBA highly preferred.

Strong analytical skills are necessary, but successful candidates will also have a high degree of emotional intelligence. Excellent communication skills are required. Must be able to thrive in a “flat” office environment with an emphasis on teamwork, yet still be entrepreneurial given the boutique nature of the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of the investment process—portfolio management, investment counseling, and business development. This includes:
  • development of policy and strategy
  • research – general monitoring and new idea generation consistent with the investment style and philosophy of the Firm
  • special projects
  • Client service
  • participate in client meetings
  • respond to client inquiries
  • collaborate with colleagues to understand and anticipate client needs, sensitivities and requirements and proactively share knowledge with them
  • general assistance as required
  • Trading – equity and fixed income
  • Contribute to IT, compliance and other areas of firm infrastructure
  • Develop and demonstrate solid knowledge of firm-wide and service-line specific tools, processes and databases
  • Develop an understanding of the firms’ organizational structure, services, key personnel, and policies and procedures
  • Assist the President and other investment professionals as necessary

Skills and Requirements:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of direct experience in an investment counseling role, preferably at a Registered Investment Advisor/Wealth Management firm, bank or similar in the financial services sphere
  • Advanced knowledge of investment/financial counseling concepts and investment accounting
  • Understand general financial planning principles in the areas of retirement savings, taxation and estate planning
  • Must be a team player with a willingness to remain flexible, take on additional tasks as necessary and adjust to changing priorities. Good chemistry with all firm colleagues is paramount
  • Impeccable character, superior attention to detail and ability to exercise good judgement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong and demonstrable analytical skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an ability to interface with clients and personnel at all levels
  • Experience, comfort and proven success communicating with high net worth individuals and their intermediaries (i.e., brokers, custodians, trustees, lawyers, accountants, bookkeepers, relatives)
  • Superior project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects/requests, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Highly proficient with MS Office as well as other enterprise software
