The vision of the SPDR ETF Strategy & Research Team in Europe is to be an indispensable link between Distribution and Investment worlds to help share information about market developments and how they impact our range of funds and help investors know about these. Our mission is to use market and economic information to explain how specific strategies may deliver in different environment and what sets our SPDR ETFs apart. We work with a variety of technologies and a very diverse dataset.
Our business in EMEA has over $35B in assets across close to 100 ETFs and is one of the fastest growing areas within the firm. We also work closely with our global teams.

Role Description
As a SPDR Strategist you will work to provide premier investment content for Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) investors around the world. This includes working with senior staff and other strategists and developing tools and presentations that integrate SSgA's thought leadership from across different investment disciplines.
You will contribute to the growth of the European SPDR ETF business through providing analytical analysis for the Distribution teams via the creation and maintenance of collateral materials, such as sales presentations, short pieces, competitive analysis and answers to ad-hoc requests. In your role you will also help co-author research papers on general market and ETF-related topics.

Initially the role will include developing and maintaining data models and developing / maintaining quantitative tools to support the team.

Responsibilities
  • Write research individually and with the team
  • Strong autonomy in improving / designing automation processes
  • Work on collateral of focus strategies timely (monthly, quarterly) together with the Subject Matter Experts within the strategy team
  • Work on the automation of competitive information regarding ETF industry flows
  • Take part in setting the agenda for the weekly strategy call (market moves, economic calendar and events in the week ahead leading to a strategy of the week idea)
  • Work with the team Senior Strategists and Head of the team on ad hoc requests and presentations
  • Manage and answer requests from EMEA and Asia based investors regarding SPDR US domiciled ETFs and SPDR EMEA UCITS ETF (characteristics comparisons and evolution, performance attribution, risk profile comparison etc...)
  • Engage with smart beta, sector and fixed income strategist on data collection and manipulation to help develop content and models for these asset classes (presentations and research documents as well as working on the monthly market chart pack)

Qualifications
  • Master level degree qualified individual with existing experience in or interest in developing a career in ETF strategy and research
  • 4-8 years of financial industry - ETF, sell-side, index or asset management industry experience preferable
  • Understanding of both fixed income and equity markets is a plus
  • CFA qualified or progress towards the qualification is desirable
  • Strong market or index experience is a requirement
  • ETF knowledge is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills. Exposure to financial systems such as FactSet, Morningstar Direct, and Bloomberg highly desirable
  • Fluency in the practical applications of statistics, finance and economics to investment management is required, in particular the ability to analyze and evaluate data and present findings
  • Knowledge of the global financial markets is important
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and prioritize workload
  • Application of creative thinking to problems and process enhancements
  • Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy when working under pressure
  • Ability to take complex ideas and present them in an intuitive fashion
  • Willing to assume responsibility and take ownership of tasks assigned
