Job Description

The Senior Credit Analyst reports to the Director of Credit Research and collaborates closely with various portfolio managers and credit analysts to drive industry positioning, credit selection, and downside credit risk management.  The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for making buy, sell, or hold recommendations through the analysis of specific industries, issuers, and securities. The Senior Credit Analyst is also expected to leverage third party research and issuer communications, where appropriate, to form well-researched bottom-up opinions.

The Senior Credit Analyst is expected to build expertise in their assigned industries and respective issuers.   All analysts are periodically required to present their issuers to the Credit Committee for approval.  Additional responsibilities include having a perspective on the credit cycle, constructively challenging the recommendations of colleagues, and mentoring junior analysts. Analysts at Pugh Capital also have trading responsibilities and execute trades as directed by the portfolio managers.  This position occasionally involves client, investment consultant, and prospective client contact.

Hiring Criteria - Skills and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of fundamental corporate bond credit experience
  • Possesses a high level of curiosity, excellent analytical skills, and is passionate about credit risk
  • Strong communication skills and a high level of comfort presenting to diverse groups
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate effectively with team members
  • Exhibits sound judgment and the ability to make investment recommendations and assess impact of decisions
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in finance, economics or accounting required
  • CFA and/or MBA is preferred
