Business Unit Overview:

The Performance Measurement and Attribution (PMA) team is a part Global Accounting and Product Services (GAAPS) group. PMA has reputation for aligning our performance attribution solutions with the evolving needs of our clients.
  • Quality attribution is a critical component to the feedback loop, and something our clients expect.
  • We focus on being students of technology and drive the deployment and development of the next generation attribution and performance tools.
  • We work together with a diverse group of teams to deliver performance measurement, evaluation, and attribution analysis for investment information and governance, globally.

Background and Development Value:

Are you interested in challenging the businesses to reach higher standards? Are you passionate about performance, and providing investment and technology solutions with purpose to help our clients meet their goals? Are you interested in adding more transparency? As a member of PMA, you take part in the story and take ownership as a subject matter expert. We are responsible for investment performance and attribution analyses globally across Fixed Income, Index Equity, Systematic Active Equity, and Multi-Asset strategies. We also oversee the firm's US and APAC GIPS composites - one of the many benefits of being on the West Coast: we see the end of one day from the EMEA region and kick of the start of another day in APAC. You get to work with multiple business divisions, including the iShares Equity Product suite, Institutional Equity, Beta Strategies, and Fixed Income products. The team focuses on using technology and project management to improve existing processes to optimize data delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You get to own the development and business interaction; you will lead attribution analysis as a subject matter expert, and get exposure to team members globally.
  • You will be a source of performance and system knowledge, and collaborate with external parties such as fund administrators, custodians, and various index vendors.
  • You will have opportunities to build relationships with Portfolio Engineering and Attribution specialists to provide quality attribution analysis and ex-post content.
  • You will research residuals using the Aladdin platform and suggest resolutions.
  • You will gain full understanding of internal analytical systems (Aladdin), and use them to support our growing business needs.
  • Investigate internal and external client inquires related to content and functionality of BlackRock's Performance reporting applications.
  • You should display integrity and confidence when dealing with different teams. You should be open to taking ownership, and make efforts to understand the data flows and dependencies.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • You want to learn about Multi-Asset, Fixed Income and Equity instruments, and general performance principles.
  • You are comfortable analyzing large data sets, including design and testing methods.
  • Display knowledge of the accounting and pricing principles; experience with performance tools and external fund administrators a plus.
  • You are passionate about learning new technologies, and eager to delving into Aladdin attribution.
  • You show a positive get the job done attitude, and are flexible to an ever-changing environment.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Graduated with a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent.
  • You show strong problem solving acumen, and the ability to synthesize information, summarize issues, and take initiative.
  • Open to learning - BlackRock provides a wealth of information and this role is ideal for someone who is hungry to learn as much as possible.
  • Prior work with business modeling techniques and/or attribution tools.
  • Demonstrated skill to assess risks accurately.
  • Experience developing software utilizing either Perl, Python or Java a plus.
  • Experience analyzing securities indicative data, including classifications, sector schemas, and some level of securities investment analysis and testing a plus.
  • You express a desire to obtain the CFA and/or CIPM designation a plus.

Competencies:

  • We pride ourselves on our team dynamic - we want an excellent communicator (verbal and written), who displays strong interpersonal interactions.
  • We want a sharp control/risk mitigation mind-set.
  • You should feel comfortable interacting independently on projects, and owning internal relationships.
  • You will operate in a team environment with diverse approaches and thinking styles.
