Role Overview

The Portfolio Manager will be the focal point for all issues relating to the portfolio of the Team, predominantly for internal stakeholders (team, resident office and other Bank departments).

The Portfolio Manager's key internal interfaces are the Team's staff and management as well as the Team's key counterparts within the Bank's middle and back office support teams. The Portfolio Manager represents the team in dealings with these support units.

The Team's senior staff are regularly speaking at industry events and meeting senior counterparts representing other institutional investors. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for all preparation, including materials and presentations, for such events.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Team's portfolio management efforts and hold overall responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the equity funds portfolio by periodic reviews and data updates;
  • Hold overall responsibility for qualitative and quantitative analysis on the portfolio including preparation of the annual and semi-annual review, monitoring reports, and valuation of the portfolio;
  • Lead any active portfolio management efforts, including oversight of any secondary activity or end of fund life activity;
  • Hold overall responsibility for the production and accuracy of all internal and external presentations as well as all ongoing communication, including all data analysis related thereto;
  • Advance and monitor the rigid application of the Bank's monitoring procedures to a high quality and in a timely manner with a view to maximise the team's ability to engage effectively with portfolio clients and internal stakeholders;
  • Vet and authorise all waivers / amendments / consents and restructurings in respect of portfolio projects maintaining quality control and consistency;
  • Sit on LPACs as required;
  • Assist as required in preparation of draft Team budgets, business plans and internal Team annual review. Assess, review and recommend potential opportunities to impact scorecard objectives through funding, policy dialogue and other initiatives;
  • Hold overall responsibility for all events arranged by the Equity Funds Team;
  • Closely monitor pipeline and portfolio projects' staffing and prepare recommendations to Team Director in respect of required changes;
  • Prepare all materials and follow-ups from weekly management meetings;
  • When required contribute to strategic planning, including cash flow modelling when needed;
  • Liaise closely with all relevant back and middle office support teams as necessary to ensure all relevant parties are aware of Equity Funds portfolio developments;
  • Maintain a good level of awareness of global and regional market trends in private equity industry;
  • Hold overall responsibility for briefing notes on the Team's portfolio and other topics as required; Any other ad hoc tasks as required;
  • Contribute to the Team's business planning discussions/preparations and in ongoing monitoring of targets to ensure management is aware of areas of underperformance, identifying areas where performance can be improved or enhanced;
  • The Portfolio Manager should be the driver behind more structured and active portfolio management;

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • University degree preferably in a quantitative field such as finance, economics, mathematics or business or related subject from a leading university in the country of education. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, CPA would be advantageous;
  • Relevant portfolio management experience gained from a major merchant/investment/development bank or within a fund/asset manager or major international organisation;
  • Sound understanding of private equity investments, as well as knowledge of relevant portfolio management systems and related processes;
  • Proven ability to analyse, understand and articulate complex technical problems and to develop high value propositions;
  • Experience in emerging markets is desirable;
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English;
  • Experience of presenting to senior management and external clients / partners;
  • High level of computer literacy and data analysis skills, good understanding of portfolio accounting.
