Purpose and Objective

The Investment Strategist - ALM will assist the Vice President, Investments in managing the investment portfolios of Legal & General America’s Insurance and Pension Risk Transfer businesses. This newly created position will be the lead person responsible for the asset liability management of LGA’s life insurance and PRT businesses.

LGA’s Investments Team is responsible for investment strategy formulation and implementation and aggregate portfolio management by working with various functions within Legal & General in the US and London. Daily asset management is handled by our internal and external asset managers.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Understanding the asset liability profiles of the life insurance business and pension risk transfer business
  • Developing and owning asset liability modeling, management and reporting framework, focusing on the asset aspects
  • Leading strategic/ tactical asset allocation modeling and recommendations to improve the ALM profiles
  • Balancing the different considerations and needs of current financial metrics and long-term portfolio management
  • Researching and helping implement new asset classes to improve the investment portfolios’ risk/ return profiles and business competitiveness while keeping ALM needs in mind
  • Serving as the modeling expert on the Investments Team; working with the Asset Modeling Team to set up modeling of new assets and improve modeling of existing assets
  • Leading or participating in various projects as needed, such as investment risk management, new asset manager due diligence, and liquidity management
  • This person will work closely with various teams in the Stamford, Frederick and Chicago, offices as well as in the London headquarters.

Qualifications

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree required in a related field, e.g. finance, actuarial, economics and business. A master’s degree/ MBA in a related field is preferred
  • A CFA charterholder is strongly preferred

    Experience/ Knowledge

  • 7 or more years of experience in asset liability management, investment strategy, and/ or investment risk management; at least 10 years of experience preferred
  • Strong fixed income knowledge
  • Life Insurance industry experience or other liability driven investment experience is strongly preferred
