The Firm:

Newton Investment Management is an active investment management firm, using thematic ideas about the long-term investment landscape to create and manage strategies that help secure our clients' futures. We think on a global basis, with our single London-based investment team working collaboratively across asset classes and regions. We build bold solutions, designed to meet the real-world challenges our clients face, and we manage them responsibly in the broadest sense - through embedding environmental, social and governance considerations, and engaging on issues that affect our clients. Those clients are based around the world, and include pension funds, corporations and charities and, via our parent company BNY Mellon, individuals. With offices in London and New York, we have $72.8 under management (as at 31 December 2017), including assets managed by Newton Investment Management Limited as dual officers of Newton Capital Management Limited and The Bank of New York Mellon. News and other information about Newton are available at www.newton.co.uk and via Twitter: @NewtonIM.

Our employees are bright, inquisitive, thoughtful and collaborative. They are highly motivated to deliver performance and service to our clients. We pride ourselves on being an employer of choice, with a flexible working environment and a commitment to diversity and opportunity among our employees.

Newton is a professional, friendly and collegiate place to work. We look to attract individuals who are keen to work as part of a team, in a meritocratic environment, and who are driven to help make the organization a great place to work.

The Opportunity:

Newton Investment Management North America LLC is the US business development and client service arm of Newton. The US business is a strategic focus of the firm. Newton has the ambition to grow the US business to a material part of the overall business (currently roughly 15% of the total firm assets).

The US business focusses on two core functions. 1) Portfolio Specialists have in depth knowledge of Newton investment strategies and markets and represent our investment team across clients and prospects. 2) Institutional Sales / Client Directors work with our institutional clients and prospects to understand their investment needs and provide solutions to meet their investment goals.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team which is a key focus of the firm. We are looking for an Associate to join our NY-based team supporting the Portfolio Specialist and Institutional teams. This is a great opportunity to gain experience within the buy side client facing business, deepen existing knowledge of equity, fixed income and multi-asset investment strategies, build knowledge across institutional and intermediary channels and be part of a growing, dynamic and global team.

  • Use systems such as eVestment, Factset, and S&P Money Market Directory to run market analyses, attribution, and competitor analysis to help the wider group and sales teams deepen their understanding of Newton strategies.
  • Work closely with senior client facing associates and contribute ideas across business strategy, client campaigns, use of technology.
  • Generate and review Management Information reports and business plans which will require use of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Monitor and coordinate Requests For Proposals (RFPs) and Requests For Information (RFIs) with BNYM and Newton RFP/RFI teams.
  • Oversee the coordination and review of new business and client presentation materials with support of London-based presentation team.
  • Work closely with compliance to ensure external materials are reviewed by UK and US compliance colleagues and facilitate edits where necessary.
  • Work with various internal groups and team on ad hoc requests and projects.
  • Assist with general queries and requests from clients, consultants and internal groups.
  • Work with marketing team to ensure availability and distribution of marketing material.
