GROUP DESCRIPTION :
Our Houston-based team provides equity research coverage of approximately 28 global energy shipping companies including owners of crude oil and refined products tankers, LNG and LPG carriers, dry bulk carriers, and containerships. Our team is led by Randy Giveans. Mr. Giveans joined Jefferies in 2011 and has led Jefferies' Energy Maritime Equity Research Group since 2017 and has led the coverage of the LNG shipping MLP group since 2016. In 2018, Mr. Giveans was named an Institutional Investor All-America Research Rising Star and was ranked as the #1 Stock Picker for Shipping in the Thomson Reuters Analyst Awards. Prior to joining Jefferies in 2011, Mr. Giveans worked for two years as a Senior Financial Analyst in the Corporate Finance department at Continental/United Airlines. He received a Bachelor of Science in Finance/Economics from Spring Hill College and an MBA in Finance with an Energy Specialization from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University .

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting research on the shipping markets and companies within our coverage universe
  • Closely monitoring shipping industry news & trends and tracking fundamental developments
  • Building & maintaining financial models and writing research reports
  • Interacting with company management teams, internal corporate constituencies (e.g., sales and trading), and buy side clients


Qualifications

DESIRED SKILLS:
• Strong fundamental analysis skills (both financial and data)
• Good verbal & written communication skills
• Candidate must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and have good organizational skills
• Candidates should have a strong interest in working in the securities industry
• Team-player with a positive attitude

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:
• College degree in Finance or Accounting, MBA and/or CFA preferred
• More than two years work experience in a financial capacity
• Equity research experience or credit analyst program training highly desired
