An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Mercer’s Investment consulting team.

Mercer is a global leader in investment consulting and fiduciary management and provides investment services to a wide range of clients including pension funds, insurers and private banks.

We offer customised advice and support at every stage of the investment decision, risk management and investment monitoring process and provide a full range of strategy implementation options to best meet clients’ needs and preferences.

The role will involve providing advice to trustees and employees on the operation of pension plans.

This mid-level role will offer a wide variety of exposure and career opportunities. First and foremost, managing your own client portfolio and providing bespoke investment consulting advice to a broad range of clients. Secondly, helping lead consultants manage the relationship with our larger and most sophisticated clients and taking part in large and complex investment projects. Thirdly, influencing and further developing Mercer’s overall service delivery to our investment client base.

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Gain an intricate knowledge of Mercer’s best ideas and investment research capabilities;
  • Develop their investment consulting expertise and investment market knowledge;
  • Form part of a dynamic team delivering market leading investment advice and solutions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of clients on a day to day basis, providing proactive advice and recommendations on a range of investment related issues.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of Mercer’s best ideas, investment capabilities and solutions in order to provide best advice and communicate effectively to clients.
  • Meeting clients to review current investment arrangements, discuss market /industry developments and potential strategy changes to consider / implement.
  • Overseeing implementation of changes to investment manager arrangements, investment strategy, and assisting in the production of ad-hoc and regular investment performance report.
  • Ensuring clients are kept informed of major developments in the industry and advised on developments that may impact their investment policies.
  • Liaising with colleagues across business lines to achieve successful investment outcomes for our clients.
  • Responsible for training and development of junior colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of building strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Comfortable presenting to a group of Trustees and dealing with senior people.
  • Client centric in everything they do and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail is critical.
  • Understanding of pensions, investment markets and asset classes.
  • Proactive and goal orientated. Wants to work as part of a team.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience

Qualifications:

  • Third level qualification with a strong academic track record.
  • Would suit candidates who are working towards, or planning to work towards, the CFA or actuarial qualification.
  • Should be willing to work towards the QFA qualification in the future.

I.T./Technical Skills:

  • Possess strong IT skills. (in particular a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
