Position Description:
PIMCO is seeking a risk manager for its alternative asset business with a primary focus on Private Equity style finite-life portfolios. The alternatives business at PIMCO continues to expand fund offerings and remains a key growth area for the firm. Assets held across the alternatives platform range broadly in scope, from publicly and privately issued securities, to real estate and other physical assets. The risk management role entails monitoring and managing risk across portfolio exposures, asset/liability profiles, funding risk, and ensuring adherence to portfolio guidelines and investment mandate.

Background
- PIMCO's private alternative business spans a range of funds whose holdings include some combination of NA-RMBS, CMBS, CLOs, public and private commercial real estate loans, corporate credit, bank loans, public and private equity, physical real estate and other assets.
- Alternative portfolios can employ various forms of leverage at fund and single asset levels to manage risk/return profile. Private alternatives business is an area of growth both in terms of funds/AUM as well as asset types being held.
Major Responsibilities
- Partner with Portfolio Managers, Analysts and Analytics to ensure that relevant risk measures are correctly estimated and aggregated in portfolios across range of asset type.
- Review portfolios to ensure holdings and risk profile are in adherence with specific limits and overall mandate.
- Work with Portfolio Managers to estimate most likely return, and range of expected return, for funds.
- Develop and maintain macro stress tests to estimate portfolio return in hypothetical adverse market events as holdings and market conditions warrant.
- Work with Financing Team to enhance and maintain liquidity stress scenarios to estimate cash needs on financed holdings in adverse market events.
- Estimate liquidity profile of long positions taking into consideration fund life cycle
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Analyst, Portfolio Manager or Risk Manager working with Structured Credit products
- Advance degree in Finance
- Strong experience with DCF analysis and asset/collateral valuation modeling
- Deep familiarity with relevant risk analytics, database and technology infrastructure
- Working knowledge of leverage types and risks associated with leverage structures
- Highly analytical with strong modeling skills
- Knowledge of and curiosity about macro market conditions and drivers
- Team player with ability to engage across broad range of business group
