We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Head of Investments Operations .

Principal responsibilities

  • Under guidance of GI COO Balance Sheet Optimisation, work for the implementation of the Investment Operations model, informed by the Group strategy and an understanding of the business globally and the external environment
  • Define future capabilities required by the function to drive investment operations towards its desired operating model, ensuring the model is maintained and updated as required
  • In partnership with Entity COOs, drive a common Target Operating Model for entity Investment Operations
  • Represent Investment Operations interests in Group COO strategy definition and resulting initiatives
  • Working with COO community and Group Investment, drive the transformation of Investment Operations through the execution of Global Function strategy and Global Standards
  • Engage with stakeholders across Group BSO, Group Investment COO Community, HSBC Global Asset Management, HSBC Securities Services, as well as Insurance Finance, Risk, and Actuarial functions at global and local level to translate Investment Operations functions and Global Standards into effective global execution strategy and implementation plans, identifying potential cross-group and local impacts
  • Drive a focus on creating sustainable change, with a consistent approach
  • Engage various stakeholders required to mobilise the execution strategy and implementation plans
  • Under guidance of the GI COO Balance Sheet Optimisation and in partnership with Group Investment, ensure effective governance structures are in place to enable oversight, control and monitoring of strategy execution and implementation plans
  • Drive Operational Risk Management for Investment and Investment Operations Functions globally
  • Ensure effective governance structures, infrastructure and processes are in place across Insurance entities


Qualifications

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Finance, Risk, IT, Operations or a related field
  • Formal operations, finance or investment management, for example, CFA, CIPM, qualifications are desirable
  • Extensive experiences with buy side investment operation processes, prior experience with multinational insurance companies is a big plus
  • In depth understanding in end-to-end buy side trade process, front office, middle office, back office. Also understand the internal and external relationship with fund managers, investment accounting, custodian services, brokerage counterparties, and external fund managers.
  • Ability to understand and develop a target operating model and recommend enhanced trade processes to improve effectiveness from cost and efficiency perspectives.
  • Experiences in different investment operating models, in-house management, outsourcing or hybrid model on a global basis.
  • Detailed expertise and knowledge in relation to investment operations and processes
  • In depth knowledge of investment systems including functionally, operationally and financially
  • Understanding of key features and risk return profiles of global asset classes and instruments, including plain vanilla instruments such as cash equity and fixed income, as well as derivatives
  • Practical experience of major business transformation with global project management experience
  • Experience of working across cultures
  • Ability to articulate complex and sensitive information and situations in meaningful and easily understood terms
  • Understanding of the HSBC Group and its strategy, structures and processes
  • Knowledge of the external environment including regulatory, political, competitor and market
