Main Duties and Responsibilities

Idea Generation Research

 Identify, research and propose high calibre managers in assigned geographic area in accordance with the Firm’s Policy.

 Use and further develop the quantitative screening tools.

 Drive the fund manager due diligence process including desk‐based analysis, in‐house meetings and on‐site visits.

 Write research reports on existing and/or potential managers after meetings and update existing reports with any news or new developments which could impact the department’s investment thesis.

 Prepare recommendations to appoint or terminate managers under direct responsibility.

 Assist in drafting of commercial and legal agreements.

 Draft and prepare all required documentation for the Investment Committee and support and monitor the execution of legal and financial terms.

 Collaborate pro‐actively with the other team members to further enhance the Council’s idea generation and evaluation processes.

 Monitor and share market insights in relation to Emerging Markets, act as the subject matter expert in the area of coverage and create periodic country and sector outlooks.

Portfolio Management

 Follow and analyse managers’ performance and risk characteristics in various market conditions to make recommendations to the allocation committee.

 Participate in the manager allocation meetings/discussions; analyse and assess how changes will affect the portfolio’s profile.

 Apply sensible rebalancing techniques considering relevant issues such as style returns, industry trends as well as regulatory and commercial developments.

 Support and monitor the timely implementation of investment decisions in collaboration with other

departments and team members.

Monitoring

 Contribute to performance reports and reviews;

 Monitor and assess managers’ performance, checking transactions and reports; discuss manager activities and provide overall summaries to the Chief Investment Officer and/or Executive Director.

 Bring to the team’s attention any changes at the manager level such as Key personnel, investment process for decision.

 Support all investment activities, at pool level, and ensure that they are in compliance with the guidelines within a given legal framework.

Education

 University Degree or equivalent in a business related field

 CFA or equivalent, MA or MBA

Experience

 Either:

o Approx. 3‐5 years of principal investing experience in equities, preferably with a focus on Emerging

Markets, or

o Approx. 3‐5 years of long‐only or long‐short manager research in a tier 1 investment house

 Experience in designing and negotiating investment guidelines for segregated account mandate

 Experience in interviewing managers/external parties, writing detailed research reports and presenting at senior management/Investment committee level

 Applicable financial markets and/or institutional fund manager experience.

Technical Expertise / Skills / Knowledge

 Ability to use different information systems (Bloomberg, Factset, eVestment, Morningstar, Barra, MPI, etc).

 In‐depth understanding of the dynamics of equities and fixed income investments.

 Good listening and questioning skills as a significant part of the research process is conducted through

interviewing fund managers.

 Strong communication skills, including excellent writing and analytical skills

 Strong quant background, including the ability to create and use elaborate quantitative models.
