SAF Group (“SAF”) is a Calgary based alternative investment manager actively deploying capital in the following sectors: energy, mining, and energy logistics, with a focus on credit & equity structured investments. Since its formation in 2014, SAF has grown to more than $1 billion in equity capital commitments and employs more than 20 people in the business in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto.

We are seeking an Associate as a critical addition to our growing firm. The ideal candidate will be a high energy individual with strong technical abilities, charisma, attention to detail, and a passion for alternative investing.

Responsibilities:

·         Review and assist in transaction analysis, portfolio maintenance, and counterparty optimization for clients and management;

·         Lead SAF’s analyst group (3-5 individuals) providing mentorship, fluid feedback, and formal review;

·         Take ownership of all analyst work flows and associated capacities ensuring reasonably that all deadlines are met and work is of the utmost quality;

·         Serve as a liaison between SAF’s Principals (Energy, Trading & Logistics, and Mining & Metals) and its analyst group for new deals;

·         Ensure all reporting requirements (financials, and investment updates) are met in a timely manner;

·         Successfully be able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while strategically allocating time where required; and

·         Strong work ethic with the ability to accommodate variable tasks outside of regular business hours.

Qualifications:

The following qualifications are considered critical:

·      Completion of a Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree with a focus on finance, accounting, or an energy related technical discipline (engineering, geology, etc.);

·         3-5 years’ work experience in a finance position (private equity, energy research, investment banking etc.);

·         Above average work ethic, integrity, and motivation;

·         Proficiency in the use of Excel™, PowerPoint™, and Word™;

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to be a team player; and

·         A strong interest in and demonstrated understanding of commodities and financial markets.

The following would be considered an asset:

·         Completion of an accounting designation and enrollment in the CFA program.
