PERFORMANCE ANALYST

SMC is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, numerically strong Performance Analyst who will report to the Director of Investment Operations.  This position will be responsible for a full range of performance and reporting needs for a complex, multi-asset class portfolio.  The ideal candidate is highly productive and efficient with strong communication, partnering and problem-solving skills.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Calculate, analyze and publish performance results for marketable and non-marketable investments, ensuring compliance with industry practices, to provide relevant, accurate, and timely information for investment oversight and decision making.
  • Compute and interpret performance metrics at the asset class, manager, fund, and holding level, and explain the sources of relative performance to a suitable index.
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly performance reports, including executive summaries, board reports, and presentations.
  • Establish strong relationships with internal investment and operations team and personnel at the custodian bank.
  • Play a key role in ensuring the Investment Book of Record for both private and public investments is current and accurate.
  • Understand key accounting concepts and proactively identify, research and resolve any valuation and performance related issues.
  • Work with investment and operations staff to continuously evaluate and improve processes and systems that support investment operations and performance reporting.
  • Perform ad-hoc reporting and special projects as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
  • Expert proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Highly motivated and works well under pressure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly sitting.
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely reach/work above shoulder.
