OUR COMPANY:

Mellon is a specialist multi-asset investment management firm dedicated to serving sophisticated investors globally, providing clients with high-quality single and multi-asset investment solutions using both active and passive strategies. Coming together in 2018 through the combination of Mellon Capital, Standish, and The Boston Company, the combined asset manager has the scale and investment capabilities to offer institutional and intermediary clients a broad range of specialist investment solutions. The Boston Company, Standish and Mellon Capital are product brands of BNY Mellon Asset Management North America.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking a Municipal Analyst to develop/affirm timely research recommendations of general obligation and revenue bonds within both the investment grade and high yield spectrums.

S/he will communicate with the investment team to determine relative value, as well as communicate current views. S/he will work with the team to develop, articulate and implement strategic and tactical recommendations. This position reports to the Head of Municipal Research.

THE TEAM:

Mellon's Municipal/Tax-Sensitive buy discipline is valuation-based. We develop research ideas based on a particular bond or sector's credit strength and yield spread and after-tax yield versus other securities/sectors within the municipal market. Idea generation can evolve from either the trading desk, credit analysts or portfolio managers. Our research analysts review the fundamentals, including analysis of the history and current health of credits, along with pro-forma judgments about future trends and credit quality. In addition, we look at how certain sectors and securities compare with other sectors both currently and on a historical basis. Our portfolio management team evaluates the sizing of exposures that are appropriate in the portfolio context.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have 2 to 5 years of investment experience and demonstrated expertise and interest in the analysis of both general obligation and revenue bonds. S/he should have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to work as part of a highly collaborative investment team. Progress towards an MBA (or equivalent) and/or CFA are preferred.
