Responsibilities:

Principal Global Investors has an opportunity for an Associate Portfolio Specialist to join the public equity REIT investment team.  This award-winning team specializes in managing portfolios of listed global real estate or REIT stocks for clients around the world.  With high demand for the team’s REIT strategies and growth in business the investment team is looking to expand in areas to support these client and marketing efforts. As a member of the REIT investment team, the Associate Portfolio Specialist’s primary role is to be a broad team resource and act as an extension of the team’s Portfolio Specialist and Portfolio Managers.

What is the job?

This person will be responsible for the development and oversight of client communications and marketing materials for our REIT strategies to serve our clients and generate new business.  You will be trained on REITs, the team’s investment philosophy, process, and participate in investment strategy meetings. You will assist with responding to client and sales inquiries, writing portfolio commentary, reviewing RFPs, presentations, and other deliverables.  As a REIT portfolio and strategy expert, you will be coordinating with internal business partners such as marketing, relationship management, sales distribution, and product management to complete these tasks and ensure consistency and quality over the material.  Via calls and in-person meetings, you will also assist with providing clients, prospects, and consultants with ongoing updates about the investment philosophy, process and performance of our REIT strategies. Additional work will include quantitative statistical analysis, database management, and REIT market research to support team white papers, peer research, and client/consultant inquiries.  Provide back-up support to the team's Portfolio Management Associate to cover portfolio trading and cash flow related duties as required.

Success in this role will require a strong interest in financial markets, hard work ethic, and a skill set that meshes analytical skills, broad strategic thinking, and effective communication abilities

Qualifications:

What are we looking for in a candidate?
•Bachelor’s degree, with 4+ years of experience in a related field such as research analyst, marketing, consultant, or other financial-related roles
•CFA designation (or progress towards) strongly preferred
•A self-starter with the ability to collaborate, multi-task, organize, and work in a fast-paced environment is required.
•Must be an excellent communicator and presenter, both orally and written. 
•Proficient analytical and technical ability to manipulate financial data in Excel.  Highly proficient in power point also necessary. 
•Demonstrate the ability to understand and articulate financial, economic, and portfolio management concepts (investment strategy, risk, total returns, etc.).
•Able to demonstrate the ability and interest to evolve into a full client facing portfolio specialist.
•Some travel will be required for the role.
