POSITION

The Private Equity Operations Director will be responsible for overseeing the operations supporting our private market efforts across all facets of the investment life-cycle from sourcing through exit.  Wellington has been investing in private companies since 2003 (~$4.7 billion across more than 300 deals) and has two dedicated funds, Hadley Harbor and Hadley Harbor II, focused on investing in private late-stage, established companies.  The Private Equity Operations Director will provide the thought leadership to further developing the Firm's operational and investment capabilities for private deals.  Additionally, this role will manage the Private Equity Operations and Fair Valuation teams.  This role is based in Boston, MA and will report to Director of Portfolio Services.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Establish an Private Equities Operations function and define workflow and roles and responsibilities of the different operational aspects of investing in private deals including deal tracking, support the due diligence process, settlement, corporate actions, share cleansing, and deal exits

  • Coordinate non-investment decision making amongst functional groups including portfolio managers and analysts, investment supervisors and Legal teams for new deals, existing holdings, distressed situations, and sale/exits

  • Establish a workflow via a single point of contact to address investor inquiries and support.

  • Drive the implementation and enhancement of technology supporting the private equity workflow

  • Work closely with the Equity Portfolio Management, Private Equity Operating Committee (PEOC), and the Private Equity Review Council (PERC) to address operational issues and risks as well as deal-specific issues

  • Manage a team of dedicated Private Equity Operations analysts, whose responsibilities include tracking deals, setting up new securities, recording and tracking contractual terms, managing delivery and oversight of certificates, and coordinating activities when event will impact private deal (e.g. IPO, capital call, etc.)

  • Manage a team of Fair Value analysts who are responsible for generating a fair valuation of private companies on a regular basis and supporting company due diligence


The successful candidate for this position is likely to have:

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a private markets investment or management role

  • Experience building and managing the operational aspects of a private equity business (including but not limited to: deal flow/terms, due diligence, legal/compliance and tax)

  • Strategic mindset and ability to be decisive in the face of ambiguity

  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in a collaborative, team-based, results-oriented environment

  • Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial nature

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Strong academic credentials, MBA/CFA preferred
