WELLINGTON MANAGEMENT

Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 50 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

POSITION
The Investment Platform
Our global investment platform is comprised of over 475 investment professionals across four investment functions (Investment Boutiques, Research, Science and Strategy) in six locations (Boston, Hong Kong, London, Radnor, Singapore and Tokyo).  The team collectively manages approximately $1 trillion in assets across the capital structure.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates to join our Launch Research Associate (RA) programme, based in London.

The Position
The goal of the programme is to provide flexible, value-added analytical resources to support the firm's mission of superior investment performance. Additionally, we endeavor to develop and identify exceptional Launch RAs to build our pipeline of talented investors for the future. Through a series of multiple rotations, programme participants will play a critical role in assisting experienced Analysts and Portfolio Managers in conducting research and implementing their investment process. Over the course of 3-5 years, Launch Research Associates should expect to complete rotations in some or all of the following groups:  Global Equity Portfolio Management, Equity Research and Fixed Income Research. Although less frequent in nature, there may also be opportunities within our Macroanalysis and Asset Allocation (AA) groups. Typically rotations are 9-12 months in length. The duration and nature of each rotation will vary considerably based on investor needs, fit, and the participants' skills and interests.

Examples of the nature of the work include:
  • Analysing potential investment opportunities;
  • Building and maintaining company financial spreadsheets;
  • Modelling sophisticated financial instruments;
  • Completing complex analytical projects;
  • Researching macroeconomic themes;
  • Interpreting company announcements;
  • Attending company meetings and conferences;
  • Developing and communicating investment ideas in spoken and written form.

The Launch programme is a maximum of 5 years in length. A Launch RA's career path during and after the 5 year period is based upon personal interests, individual skill, and future potential to become a highly successful investor. Some RAs may choose to pursue graduate studies upon completion of Launch.

The programme affords a unique entry-level opportunity for those individuals who are passionate about pursuing a career in investment research and investing. Successful applicants will participate in a Boston-based, in-house training curriculum focused on developing accounting, financial statement analysis, and financial modelling skills, as well as providing broad exposure to the investors and investment landscape at Wellington. Supplemental training and career coaching will be provided on a continuous basis throughout each participant's tenure with the programme, along with mentorship from experienced investors and peers. In addition, participants will be required to pursue the CFA exam to further their financial acumen.

The size of the programme is intentionally kept small, to ensure participants receive personalised attention. There is a competitive and rigorous interview process for each applicant.

Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who display the following characteristics:
  • Strong academic credentials. Progression towards the CFA would be advantageous;
  • Some relevant financial analysis experience, most likely to have been gained in an equity or fixed income research capacity at an investment management firm, investment bank or ratings agency:
  • Demonstrated interest in, and passion for, investing, coupled with a strong desire to analyse investment opportunities;
  • Intellectual curiosity and mental flexibility, a focus on continuous improvement, a willingness and ability to take risk and try new things;
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - the ability to synthesize disparate information, identify the most important elements, and arrive at a conclusion;
  • Demonstrable track record of high achievement;
  • High level of motivation, humility and a collaborative mindset;
  • Ability to work independently, and manage priorities;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Please note that we are only able to respond to successful applicants.
